Your car bumper stickers can tell criminals a lot about you and your family

The Niagara Regional Police Service here in southern Ontario has published an article that cautions against putting too much information on your car. READ THIS. link.

Things that at first glance may seem innocent and funny, can help the bad guys learn facts about your life style and habits. IN our case the only thing on our car that didn't come from the factory is the name of the original selling G.M. dealership. You might want to re-consider what visible clues you have on your vehicle. That's okay. My bumper stickers are telling people, no matter who they are, that I'm always thinking about my brother who passed away in 2020, and that I'm a fan of the St. John's (NY) University basketball team.

What a crock of paranoid BS!

I love the 'baby on board' decal concern. We have a baby and may be easily distracted in a parking lot and become an easy target. WTF?? Live your life the way you want to...without being afraid of every shadow around the corner.

Yeah well, around here, if you have a bumper sticker that some crazy gun nut does not like, you might just get shot.

I’ve seen these warnings for years, I guess some are so paranoid they look for reasons to live in fear. I don’t have any just ā€˜cause I don’t like to put stickers on my car and ruin the finish, or my rear window and front windshield to block my view.

Yes, or some cowardly jerk in a parking lot that decides to drag his key along the side of your car. Aside from that, there are just fewer cars now that have a nice metal bumper to put a sticker on, rather than the painted plastic ones that'll get ruined.

In Idaho, many plates identify the county of registration. At the start of covid my county, Blaine, was the epicenter of the covid outbreak following the health care facility in WA. We have residents that are frequent world travelers and we have tourists from all over the world that come to ski. I presume both residents and tourists were sources of covid.

Many residents of our county go to a nearby city about 90 miles away in another county to do shopping of all kinds. Well folks from Blaine County, identified by the plates, were subject to all kinds of abuse from road rage, verbal, and physical assaults during their shopping trips there.

Giving people a reason to act out is something I strive to avoid, by any means necessary.

I never gave it much thought always thought that bumper stickers were a waste never had them and thought would ruin car/ resale etc.

Some people may never have made the connection that poster showed......... but who is to say a criminal might find it useful.... i was approached at my car outside of a store when my kids were real small thinking i would be distracted and an easy mark. They found out quickly i was prepared and very mad by their attempt for whatever. i carried a knife back then and offered to gut the man closest to me like a deer...... his accomplice ran fast and he was trying to tell me i was taking it wrong as he backed away as quickly as he could.
They were not by alerted by a sticker but they saw me walking with kids.
A man tried this just last year with my daughter and grandchild ... as well .... attempted to lure grandchild away.

As for others anything on car to further identify you also makes POSSIBLE a person to find you ... a school may tell them what part of city you live in.... and i would be more concerned about stalkers then thieves.
I just went to a store the other day this place had the cashiers whole ( First and last ) name on receipt which i find very risky as a person could search the name in social media or internet and stalk if they felt so inclined.
Many people may never even notice but it only takes ONE to notice and act on it.

I haven't seen that, that is so wrong.

I don't even like the fast food places asking me for my first name to put on my order so they can shout it out.

I have no stickers. I'm always amazed when people put stickers on their car at election time. As divided as we are right now, half the population may feel justified in keying your car.
