Actress,TV Icon Suzanne Summers has passed away

OH wow..23 years with cancer, MY God, that poor woman, what a fighter she must have been.. ..OMG..I just read the article which said she fought various different cancers since her 20's... 50 years.

I remember her very well from Love Boat in the 70's

R.I.P

I grew up in the same town with and went to the same high school as her. She graduated in June of `64 and I started in Sept. `64 so didn`t attend with her. Was married in the church directly across the street from her house, although she had already left home by that time. My brother in law graduated with her and dated her for a while-then he met my sister and the rest is history.

Her sister Maureen, BIL Bill and nephews Billy and Tim were customers of ours-we repaired many cars for them. Great people.

I first saw Suzanne when I went to a high school play,Guys and Dolls, where she had the lead as Adelaide. My sister was in the play as well. The big thing that night was that Walter Winchell was there and after the play he went onstage and told Suzanne that she was "gonna make it".

She held out for more money on Three's Company back in the late 70's...then she quit or was fired over it.

Her rationale was that her show had better ratings than M*A*S*H* at the time. She was correct and ahead of her time in wanting a bigger paycheck from the producer dragons hoarding their coins.

But the other two co-stars wouldn't back her up and the rest is history. I know on the show FRIENDS later on, the actors all stuck together and got better paychecks for their efforts.

That's one of the things that made her a woman pioneer in the tv industry. She didn't do bad on her own finding herself a niche.

Much more than the airhead blonde she played on Three's Company. She was smart, talented and driven for sure.

@WhatInThe

I meant to give you a like for your above comment but mistakenly hit the 'wow' emoji.
That's how the industry treated after. They tried to force a stereo type on her-dumb blonde.

Not for the like but you can change emoji's after. I've done it more than once. I confuse laugh with cry at times being too fast/not paying attention.

Unlike Ray Romano and Jerry Seinfeld where they only worried about getting loads of money and the rest of the cast got shillings.

Just googled a bit more about this...

After 4 seasons on Three's Company, Suzanne was making $30,000 per episode. She asked to be paid the same as John Ritter ($150,000 per episode)...the producers refused to give her the pay hike so she left the show.

$30,000 in the 70s is about $180,000/episode, today. For 28 episodes per season, that's about $1.4 million, in today's money. I'm not up on Hollywood stuff, but there is a pecking order in pay for star roles, and then for support cast. Ritter couldn't be replaced, but she could. If I remember correctly, she didn't handle her request for an equal salary well. She managed to infuriate the rest of the cast, crew, the production company and the network. The "Friends" cast knew exactly what not to do.

I do think the show suffered when she left. She was great as an airhead.
Sorry for her passing.

Saw her in "Three's Company" and has the one advertising the tigh master. Never needed one as I was doing loads of cycling back then.

Must admit it was a surprise to hear she'd passed as the one I worry about the most is Shannen Doherty. According to her Wikipedia page, her cancer has reached her brain, is now in stage four and is incurable.

Too many have these cancers these days, it's so sad!

R.I.P. Chrissy. She fought a long battle. I saw a headline (didn't read the story) that her friends and family wanted her to forego the holistic cancer treatments and get traditional treatment.
