How did you find out about SF/how long have you been a member?

I joined in 2017 but took a break for a couple of years, 2019-2022. I picked back up when I retired and had time to devote.
I had searched for a senior forum and this is what came up. I've never been on any other senior forum.
 

Not sure but not all that long ago. About a year or two ago. This is a very well moderated forums. Makes you wonder why so many others are so bad.

Just checked: November 2022, not quite a year. Now I wonder how long this forums has existed. Also how long can we hope the moderation team with the super powers to go on?

It was started by Matrix in March 2012.. for many years we had @SeaBreeze as our lovely moderator.. think it was around 9 years until she needed to concentrate on real life matters.. I joined in January 2014.. I was still working full time

I've only been here a very short time.

I was very active on other work-related forums. I stuck with them after retiring, but the community has started to dwindle away and most of the old timers are now gone.

I went searching for alternatives and came upon this one. It's a lot different and I'm still making adjustments to different kinds of topics and the "discussion" style which feels less conversational. Of course the old forums were more directed at work-related problem solving issue by issue.

I suppose those other forums tended to be 90% male too, which probably has a little to do with how things work there. A lot fewer hit and run unicorn-kitty-posters threads. :ROFLMAO:

There are a lot of nice people here. That's a strong plus!

Males do tend to monopolize the stage in RL and at most forums but not here. Hallelujah! Recently I learned that while the ladies here all tend to be women of exceptional beauty, they look askance at having that pointed out in PMs by male members. Not that I would be so bold myself, of course.

It wouldn't occur to me. I don't expect that to get me anywhere. I never assume an online persona isn't carefully crafted, with wide-ranging motivations I'd probably guess incorrectly.

Might really be a guy or vice versa, some college student role-playing as part of a Psychology or Sociology class, some law enforcement unit casting its nets, rich old bag getting her jollies playing Black Widow Spider, experimental Eliza chatbot, a Nigerian Prince needing help protecting money, etc.
