Let's visit Swinging London 1967

Thanks @hollydolly! Enjoyed seeing how people on the street dressed, their hairstyles, and vehicles of that era.

This 5 minute video (no audio) shows Market Street in downtown San Francisco in 1967. Just like in London, very few men had long hair that became more a cultural phenomenon after 1969. Also many people stilled dressed formally, often with suits. So no, very few looked like what came to be known as hippies.


This is a "Summer of Love" 1967 7 minute video. In Haight Ashbury, neighborhood street scenes with many more Counterculture people along with a mix of gawking tourists and national news crews. Again an interesting study of how people dressed, their hairstyles, and vehicles. At 2:00 a guy gives the filmer the finger.

 
Ah, I remember the San Francisco street scene, which @David777 has somewhat described.

(Aside: David, it looks like you often use a dark blue font, which I find difficult to read ... kinda hurts my eyes. Just sayin'.)

I also stocked up on some chunky costume jewelry and some equally-chunky shoes.

..and you would have been at the time.. because that was all the fashion...The Kings road, Carnaby street et al... or any smaller fashion stores in the vicinity...

I was only 12 in '67... but so much of those fashions and newer fashions were very much still in vogue by 71 when was 16.. so really it all look just as I remember it...

I'm a little young to have experienced it directly myself, but from what I recall from media the Austin Powers movies were pretty spot on.
 
In the city where I was raised we had a very swinging scene in fashion , night life and music.. to match London easily... the difference of course was that the designers were in London.. and altho' we had many fashion stores in my city all with the latest designs the most famous ones were in London Biba.. Mary Quant, Rhodes, Clark etc


We in scotland wore young fast fashion designed by Ossie Clark - he was responsible for Hot pants, Maxi Coats, Gypsy dresses, motorcycle jackets, metallic leather and snakeskin.

Later in the decade, flowing romantic evening wear ...and we wore those Maxi dresses too...

When we came to London in '74 we were excited to visit those well known places.. and we thought London was the capital of the world.. the place where nothing closed. Boy, were we disappointed. We found that unlike our city in Scotland.. very little stayed open after 1 am... . We were used to nightclubbing until 3 or 4am.. there was nowhere for the young to dance until dawn in London except private clubs

yes and of course she was credited with inventing the mini skirt....:D
 
Worth seeing for the weirdness of the background dancers alone. Were they doing an early version of “The Robot?” 🤖
