Baking Potatoes in Crockpot/Slow Cooker: Any Good?

Hi, the ongoing discussion in the thread about crockpots and slow cookers got me to thinking: Does baking potatoes in a crockpot or slow cooker make them taste any better than in a microwave? (They absolutely do come out better in a regular, conventional oven than the microwave, but the regular oven heats the house up so much.)

Thanks for any advice; I love my baked potatoes so much and feel like I deserve a good, fluffy one rather than a limp microwaved one, lol.

An update: on allrecipes.com, the consensus seems to be that the slowcookers don't do any better than the microwave, just don't make the potatoes fluffy at all. Anyone have a better experience?

No. baked potatoes in a microwave or a slow cooker are not baked. They are steamed or boiled.

Potatoes from a hot dry oven taste totally different, nutty a bit crispy and delicious. A little salt or butter is all that's needed when done.

Have you tried one of those quilted bags for using in the microwave? It seems to me that they do a better job. I don’t know why I quit using it.

This is from Etsy. These were, and maybe still are, very popular at craft fairs. $5 - $10 usually.

Do a quick google search and you’ll find lots of instructions to make them.
