Infamous college basketball coach Bobby Knight has passed away

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. I went to IU in the Branch McCracken days, but followed IU basketball for a long time after that. Bobby was a hot-head, for sure, but you'd not find one of his players who had a bad word for him. He was firm, but fair.

He made some mistakes and he paid for them.
That's what I've heard. I think he had a few physical assault type incidents with players over the years. But for the most part tough but fair.

I’m not a sports person, but from what I’ve seen and heard he was not an exemplary model of what is perhaps now quaintly called good sportsmanship…

Not so much sportsman ship but the way he treated his own players. He was very demanding and if one screwed up he would let you know it. He put everything into coaching and wanted his players to put everything into playing including practice.

Remember Woody Hayes, the legendary Ohio State football coach? At the 1978 Gator Bowl against Clemson, Woody grabbed and punched an opposing player. End of career. Woody was quickly "retired". I believe he was only 65 or so.

It's a high-pressure career, coaching. Some can do it with grace; some can't.
