Tell us your old without telling us you are old......

We had a party line!
My senior year of high school, we discovered we could talk between busy signals on the phone.
Thus any time we got a busy signal for a certain prefix, anyone could talk between the busy signals on that line.

It was amazing to hear all the alternation between beeps and voices, quite amazing in fact.
- beep - hello - beep - how are you - beep - what's your name - beep - john - beep - what's yours - beep beep -

I ended up getting a couple of dates that way, but then the phone company caught on and it came to an end.
Then high school ended, I moved from Kansas to California, life changed dramatically, and we lost touch forever.

Love it, John!

Back to party lines for a moment, I remember when mom would catch us kids eavesdropping on the line, we'd get a swat on the behind, but leading up to mom catching us we enjoyed many-a suppressed laugh listening in on all the old biddies in the neighbourhood!

Yep…it was ridiculous we’d be asked if we wanted a non smoking or smoking seat in a plane / bus
so what difference did it make if you had a non smoking seat ? cause the transport would be full of smoke
and as a lifelong non smoker I avoided catching any public transport USER=8727]@Aunt Marg[/USER]
That's like having a no peeing section in a public swimming pool.

Car cigarette lighters, triangle side windows, and dimmer button/switches on the floor were the order of the day when I was growing up!

And I can't forget the old three on the tree!

I remember at age 6, going to the store to buy cigarettes for mom, and there wasn't so much as a look, a question, nothing forwarded my way, the store-owner would select the cigarettes I asked for, money was exchanged, and I was out the door as fast as I came in, on my way home to deliver the goods to mom!

I babysat kids for 50 cents an hour.
My first job I brought home $90 a week. That paid for my rent, food, and car payment every month. I had to have a supplemental job as a waitress at night to have money for clothes, etc. but still couldn't afford a phone!
Yep, I used to babysit all the time and we charged 50 cents an hour. Today I think babysitters get as much as working at a regular employment job.
