A woman wrote it and announced that her husband had 'expired.'

I showed it to my wife and said, "Was she married to a Parking Meter?" Hon couldn't stop laughing.

When I first heard a little friend say their grandfather had passed, I thought he'd done well in some sort of test.

On the other hand, when I was a teenager and my mother returned from the hospital after her father had, had a stroke, we all met her at the door and I said, "Did grandpa die?" My dad turned around and slapped me. I learned early that you can't win in these situations.

When I started working in nursing homes years ago, I noticed that when some residents passed away, nurses usually said that the resident had expired. One time I heard a nurse say to some other staff member, "Mr. Ditty has expired." My immediate thought was something like, "Expired? What was he? A drivers license?"

Nee understood why people are so afraid of death they can't just say it.
As you get older, it doesn't scare you anymore. You come to realize that it's just a part of life. The end of your life. But still a part of life. Working in nursing homes since 1996, has made me think of dying as something that can happen almost every day. Of course you miss some residents a lot. Just like you grieve for your own family members that have passed on. But in the end, you too will pass on. But guess what? You will once again see those that left before you. :)

That was so cruel, it has stayed in your mind all these years. I remember when I could do maths and my dad would slap me for being thick. I hated maths even more.

Indeed, I shall welcome it. Who wants to live and live when the body ails more and more?
If a life is lived well, death comes as a natural thing. Yet there are people who live in terrible fear of this thing that is coming anyway. It is because they cling to this illusion of life, where nothing lasts.

My father always did the same thing to me with regard to Maths. I could never master it, and I'd have it as homework...he thought he was a Mathematical genius, but he was terrible at explaining so he would scream and slap me in the head when I couldn't understand.... Bar-steward...
Ironically after I left school..one day I was doing a sum which involved fractions which had always been my Achilles heel.. and right in front of me, it was literally like I'd had mental maths cataracts removed, and I understood exactly what was in front of me... and went onto beat my father hands down at mental arithmetic..
