@hollydolly A couple of years ago we had an ice storm that took out power for a couple of days so no heat. What I did, genius that I am, was wore a knit, woolen cap. Keeps the body heat from going out the top of the head. Wore it all day, then it occurred to me, genius that I am again, was to wear it at night as well. Yup. Helped a whole lot! No cap? Find a woolen scarf even if it looks goofy. Who cares what you look like while you sleep?
I'm home. It's cold and dreary, but at least the rain has stopped. No gardening today for sure!
So. This morniing I had a
minor major meltdown at work. Yesterday was disaster time with a power outage, and the store had to be closed. Add to that the mess left for me by TL from Friday and trying to clear/clean it up with only a few lights running on the generator.
What precipitated it was that the HR lady stopped by to tell me to be sure to do the Zebra thing that's
required of every employee every day. I told her that I rarely have time to do my job and certainly no time to play Zebra games. Showed her what was left for me to do because TL wasn't doing HER job and that I would no longer tolerate it. Period. Didn't issue an ultimatum because I didn't have to. Just said "no more." She bopped off to get the store manager.
I ranted and raved and carried on like the world was coming to an end, and declared that I was done, done, done with TL and her shenanigans and damned tired of her getting away with whatever with absolutely no consequences. Said not right, not fair, not acceptable, that Sir and I working together can get everything done but add her to the mix when we're there, and it's a circus. Leave her to her own devices working alone, and nothing gets done, just a lot of stuff moved around. Can we say "goldbrick"?
Next thing I knew, the store manager was there documenting the mess taking pictures. Pictures of the freezer had to be taken from the doorway because he couldn't get inside. Right. She packed everything ont he pallet all the way up to the freezer door.
Told store manager that I've been a direct report and had direct reports, and if that TL had been one of my direct reports, I'd have told her where the bear shit in the buckwheat in no uncertain terms, union be damned. Yup. That's what I said: "where the bear shit in the buckwheat." Reckon I overstepped a little? LOL
He told me to trust him, that he's working on it and that our new lady will be starting in less than two weeks, replacing TL. I don't know if they still intend to put TL in the deli or not. One thing for sure, and I said so to store manager, is that TL
absolutely cannot be left unsupervised because she is unable to/incapable of setting priorities and has no time management skills whatsoever.
Then TL showed up, 30 minutes early. I acted like I had the authority to tell her what to do. Gave her instructions to deal with each and every single thing left undone, and that because she didn't bother on Friday, our night person couldn't do her job Friday night and had to go home so lost pay for a shift. Night person is on light duty because of shoulder surgery and can't reach, stretch, lift, and really doesn't need to when the freezer is organized as it should be.
TL deflected by saying that when she got there Friday morning, "they" who work in the store's main freezer told her to get Thursday night's pallet out of the freezer and that she spent all 8 hours of her shift unloading it and just having to put boxes wherever she could find space. Um. No. It's a job that takes about two hours, max. In any case, the reply to that would be "Yes. I'll do it as soon as the bakery priorities have been taken care of, in about __(insert length of time)__."
I texted Sir and told him what I'd done. AFAIK, I'm still employed.
So that's my rant for today. I'm off tomorrow and so is TL. We'll see what she dares to leave for Sir, who'll be working alone.
