The smell of certain places

LOL. Great minds think alike! I still have most of a small bottle of my wife's favourite perfume left, somewhere in a suitcase and have been tempted to do exactly what you suggest. I have always chickened out because I didn't want my daughter to think I was effeminate! In any case, after eight years there's probably not much of a scent left anyway!
be careful because perfume goes off..so you might find yourself with a perfume that's not too pretty

The scent of Panama Jack suntan lotion brings back the memory of the taste of my girlfriend's strawberry flavored lipstick.

My favourite smell of all time... is the Night blooming Jasmine on my terrace in Spain...sadly it can't be grown here...
I'm growing Jasmine in my backyard, it smells wonderful. Is it the same scent as night blooming Jasmine?

Not really the same. Night blooming Jasmine..or Lady of the night is extremely heavily fragrances, and is very toxic as well...and is not a true Jasmine...

I use Jasmine soaps and perfume, which gives me the base fragrance, but not as strong as the lady of the night flowering on my terrace,, have a read here..

Until recently, I never knew there were so many deadly plants. I bought a beautiful Oleander plant for the backyard, but soon returned it to the nursery when I learned it could be deadly if handled incorrectly. I asked the owner why they would sell such plants and his reply was, "Most people know that many beautiful plants are toxic."

Orange blossoms! When we first visited Florida in 1976, the airport was surrounded on three sides by orange groves, which were in full bloom. We stepped off the plane and cross the tarmac and I was absolutely intoxicated.

Now the groves are mostly gone and what ones are left don't seem to emit the same smell. No more being immersed in that wonderful aroma.

Another aroma that's gone: there was an orange juice processing plant just south of downtown. You'd be driving along and BAM! there were what we called the "orange farts". Very close to the plant was a big bakery operation that emitted a tantalizing aroma. You could have your morning buns and orange juice just driving down the road.

It's true Gardenlover about Oleanders. Where I live in Australia a man was barbequing some meat and he made stakes to thread the meat on and when he ate the steaks, he became violently ill and died.

Mothballs are my "happy memory smell". They remind me of both my grandmas' houses, especially the closets which were full of wonderful things.

When I see mothballs or crystals at the store, I have to squeeze the packet to get a little whiff of remembrance and I'm six years old again.

Another happy smell are the salt flats when you're approaching the coast. When we would visit the Virginia grandparents and go to Virginia Beach for the day, we'd start smelling that somewhat-malodorous aroma and we'd know we were almost there! Woo-hoo!!!
Does anyone hang up mothballs any more? I remember them in childhood, always in the huge wooden wardrobes.

I don't use it in the closets, but I use it under my garden shed to get rid of the groundhogs & skunks that try to use the den that was dug under it some years ago. The odor drifts around it & you can smell it when you walk past.

Are groundhogs what we call hedgehogs here in the UK?

They are two different animals. Groundhogs cause a lot of damage by burrowing under buildings & fence rows. They can have a large tunnel network under cement floors if it isn't found early. They are large rodents that can be very nasty if they are cornered. Farm animals can step in their holes & break a leg as well as a person climbing a fence if they don't see it. Last month I filled in a 3 foot deep hole one was digging in my horses pasture.

I found this link that shows both of them & their differences: Hedgehog Vs Groundhog (11 Differences) - Wildlife Informer

The smell of spring. It is a very faint smell like wet soil, but only if spring is coming. I noticed it during several trips to Italy in March. At the moment you have passed the "Brenner Pass" from Austria to Italy and stop and go out of your car or the bus you smell it. A weak fragrance of flowers, sweet and indistinct. Several times I had the opportunity and the luck to indulge in this flavor always soon past midnight. In my country Germany this happens much later.

In your kitchens ladies...

Experienced over a lifetime.

Smells I liked like so many others: sun dried bedding, freshly mowed lawns, roses, fresh baked bread, last but not least and sadly out of style now: the subtle smell of perfume and cologne!

Smells I hated: living close to a tannery, walking daily past a beer brewery, smell of rotten fish in the harbour, stale smoke, and worst of all the smell of the nursing home I visited on a regular basis, the sickening smell of urine and feces! Dear God, let me die before I ever end up in one of those places!
I wish perfume and cologne were out of style. Under smells I hate but only because I'm allergic and it makes me sneeze. I can understand liking it if you're not - except in those who use the stuff too liberally and/or douse themselves with it thinking it'll cover the BO if they skip showering. It so does not. Then it's the worse odor of too much perfume plus BO.

Rain. I love the smell of rain and can always smell it coming before it arrives. I sniff the air delightedly and say well it's going to rain today. The nice, soft refreshing kind - not torrential downpours or, shudder, freezing.

Can't argue with that statement, @Blaze Duskdreamer, because it's all true. Your experience has been mine as well, except for your allergies .. mine were reserved for scented candles.
