Tiny Home Villages For Homeless Veterans

I read a story last week about one breaking ground in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (PA). I also saw footage of a wheelchair bound veteran who had just moved into his tiny home. I believe that was somewhere in PA too, but I can't find the footage now. So far I've only seen articles about those in PA (one is in Penn Hills) and Missouri (MO). The one featured in the video below is in Kansas City, MO. It's nice to see that some effort is being made to help these veterans but I'm sure so many more need to be built across the country. Do you know of any other areas? Your thoughts on tiny homes for vets?

I think it's wonderful that the private sector are helping our vets.

These homes are great to help vets get back on their feet. I think it's better they are surrounded by others who have been through what they have experienced. These support programs are needed very much.

I like that some places are being used as a stepping-stone to get these people back on their own & into life once again. Some may not be able to do that, so they need something more permanent so maybe a place specially set aside for them.

Tunnel-2-Towers also has a project where they are building 500-square foot homes. These are built in a shop & then shipped to where they need them. Video says they can have one built & read to be shipped in about 2 weeks. This is the link, but scroll down to the video of "Our Comfort Homes": Homeless Veteran Program - Tunnel to Towers Foundation

I'm all for it. And small home communities for others also.

When Paradise California (camp fire) burned down, I believe every mobile home park in the town burned down. And there were a lot. Not one has been started in the area. Only stick built houses for max sale and apartments for profit. I have heard a rumor of some low income apartments. Have not confirmed.

Absolutely. It’s great that they are getting help and support amongst their own. Tunnel to Towers. Even the name is inspiring.
It’s good to read news like this.
Yayyy for good news. šŸ‘

I'm all for it. There are Millennials and GenZers that live in tiny houses. There was even a show called Tiny House Hunters on HGTV and I was quite impressed with how functional they are.

The way we treat our vets who have defended our country and have returned with PTSD or unable to find jobs is deplorable.

Why not just normalize affordable "tiny home" communities? There are a lot of singles from all walks of life who might benefit each other as neighbors.
I completely agree. But as I've been told here, and I do believe it, they build on land for profit, not the needs of the community.

There were small plots of land for sale in my town. The signs were up for years. And I mean years. After the fire, they started putting up apartments on every little plot of land that had sat there for sale. But those rents are high.

This seems like the sort of thing that a town off the beaten path in danger of disappearing might build out over time.

Sure, it takes an "angel" with big moneybags in order to create a plan and qualify for tax abatements and set-aside funds and such, but if it can be done for corporations why not for people? Of course a lot comes with strings attached that might well doom such an experiment to a ghetto within years, not to mention doing bad things for the long-term residents of the hosting town.

Surely it must be possible though? Vast tracts are acquired and idled for conservation purposes, not that I begrudge them... except when it turns out that the prime sections get carved out for Board members to acquire themselves for pennies. I won't name names, but I quit donating to two such organizations for that reason long ago.
