Who holds power over you?

We have been watching The Sopranos and it is proving interesting. It seems to me to be about power. The central character is heavily influenced by strong females in his family, though he deals exclusively with men in his line of business.

His mother, wife, daughter and now psychiatrist all drive what he does. Especially his mother.

So who holds the real power in your home, your life?

My husband sometimes comments that I am a control freak. Maybe he's correct, I am a strong character. He's a quiet sort but I know he also can manipulate me, he knows my weaknesses - we all do when we live with someone. Yet I am reflecting on who makes most decisions around here - it appears to be me!

Over the years my mother was very controlling, until I learned to resist a lot of it, but it took a long time for me to realise how she was doing it. Power is often a subtle thing. It's surprising how much we give in for a quiet life.

"So who holds the real power in your home, your life?"

I don't think that way.

I can't even say I hold the real power, because if my wife or one of my kids or grandkids wakes me from a peaceful nap or calls while I'm in the shower saying they're hundreds of miles away and need a ride or whatever, I go. I'm nobody's slave, and everyone knows that, but I'm there if I'm needed.

But maybe I don't understand what you're asking.

Also, I've never seen The Sopranos.

When I was growing up, I feel that my mother did have the power. But she wasn't loud or mean about it. Actually she was quite smart and that was why we listened to her. After having been married three times with men having the power over me, I have come to the conclusion it was due to money. Whoever made the most money controls everything. Now that I live alone nobody has control over me or my life. I like it better this way.

I loved The Sopranos, it was a strange portrait of violent criminals doing mostly mundane day to day living, interspersed with sporadic mayham .
I basically liked Tony Soprano(James Gandolfini), I'm glad that the writers never scripted him to hit Carmela(Edie Falco) or else I'd have come unglued. Paulie and Edie Falco are my favorite characters, probably my least favorite is Tony's nephew-Christopher. I liked Adriana, felt sorry for her for being involved with the abusive Christopher, and her murder by Silvio.

I'm married, we are equal partners in life, power is shared between us. I am dominent in some ways, she in other ways. That's how we roll.

I watched some of the Sopranos. Probably have not watched every episode. The episode where the sister shoots her fiancé to death and Tony comes over to clean up the mess, to say the least, is considered a borderline personality disorder performance by the mother character. When Tony goes off on her and tells his mother something like "what chance did she have, you were always on her, on her about her weight" And the mother says "I did no such thing." regarding her daughter, it's classic.

Maybe you should by the series and watch it all over again. My kids got it for me for my last birthday. Problem was, I couldn’t turn it off.

Did you ever watch the series on the ID channel about serial killers? I studied them for years. I always wondered what made them stuck besides being sick in the head.
