High rent and Homelessness

I get a chuckle out of the rich who love to point out how well off their poor neighbors are. They can't imagine that those poor souls don't have a selection of designer chocolate ice creams in a luxury 'fridge kept for just that one purpose.

Using a copier at an office store costs more, too, but it's not outrageously expensive.

Our Staples office supply store charges around a buck a copy
for pics and much less for printing letters and documents

I find that most economical in regard to cartridges and having a printer clogging up my office area
(and I don't print all that many pics or documents)

Just email the pic with size instructions and color choices and go pick it up

Since the early 1980's trillions of tax dollars have been spent to provide a safety net for citizens. Thats roughly 38 years. And here we are talking about how homelessness is increasing. No surprise that the expected increase will cause taxes to increase to pay for programs both state & federal.

There are 13 social safety net programs, as listed below. In addition, state and local government and non-profit organizations also have programs to protect and help Americans. These programs vary by location, including food, housing, counseling, and other benefits.

Social Safety Net.

The Social Safety Net at the Beginning of Federal Welfare Reform:
The concept of the social safety net entered the public policy arena during the early 1980s, as changes initiated by the Reagan administration sought to streamline government programs while maintaining supports for people termed “the truly needy” (Burt and Pittman 1985; Palmer and Sawhill 1982, 1984).

The welfare budget of the United States totaled $1.215 trillion in fiscal year 2022, or 19% of all federal outlays. Eight different federal agencies run welfare. The following chart shows the details of total welfare spending at the state and local level for FY 2021, the transfers from the federal government, and the net expenditures at the state and local level [ii].
The negative figure for housing in 2021 is due to the federal government transferring billions of dollars to the states, which the states have not yet spent.

Most of my clothes are from the thrift shop and I'm determined to start spending less on food. I'm really working on using less electricity which is futile, but I'll try. Some have no idea.

I will edit to add, I did buy two packages of plant based Reece's peanut butter cups at about $2.30 each. I ate all 4 pieces at once. They were very good but this needs to stop for more than once reason.

Reese's peanut butter cups - my weak spot.

So weird they label it "plant-based" though. Peanuts and cocoa beans grow on a plant, and then you've got your sugar cane, and I'd wager the oil comes from some kind of nut or vegetable. But maybe they use lard in the "real ones".

The plant based ones are pretty new for vegans and people who can't consume dairy which is an ingredient in the originals.

I'll bet that 4-fifths of that spending goes to young families. If that money went to skills training, employment assistance, and discounted child-care instead, the cost would eventually be slashed to only one-5th what that data shows, plus you'd have millions more taxpayers.

Why is the US gov't so freaking soft on people? People are the country's greatest asset. ....I should say "were" its greatest asset. These programs only weaken Americans.

They do clog up. My printer has a maintenance button. When I touch that, it does its best to clear any clogs. That takes a few minutes, and then tells me which cartridges are too far gone.

But ink cartridges are little money-pits by design. You used to be able to clean and refill them yourself for way cheaper than replacing them. Printing services probably helps keep office-supply stores afloat.

Some dairy in the chocolate. I was glad these didn't have palm oil in them because I stopped buying products with it also.
