..as knifeman attacks in Dublin's city centre

Five people including three children were injured today when a knifeman attacked a group of young people in Dublin before being overpowered, according to reports.

Early witness accounts suggest passersby intervened when the suspected assailant attacked the group outside a school, reports said.

Irish police confirmed five people had been injured, including three young children, following the 'major security' incident which occurred shortly after 1.30pm.

One of the children, a girl, and a woman sustained serious injuries in the incident on Parnell Square in the north inner-city of Dublin.

A man and the two other children sustained less serious injuries, the Garda said, which added it had been in contact with the parents of the injured children.

A suspect has been arrested after being treated at the scene for injuries. Police said they are following a 'definite line of inquiry' and that they were not looking for any other person at this time. A large knife has been seized from the scene, reports said.

The incident took place outside Gaelscoil Coláiste Mhuire, a school for primary-aged children. Police are working to establish a motive but do not suspect a terrorist motivation behind the attack, Irish national broadcaster RTE reported.

Dublin Knife attacks

Hooligans' have taken to the streets of Dublin in violent scenes that have seen them clash with police and loot shops after five people, including three children, were stabbed outside a school in the Irish capital.

Violence broke out after three young children and a woman were attacked Parnell Square East in the north of the city centre on Thursday afternoon. A five-year-old girl is undergoing emergency treatment for her injuries, Irish police have said.

The woman was seriously injured while the two other children, a five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, sustained less serious injuries.

A man thought to be in his 50s who was injured in the attacks is being treated as a person of interest. No statement has been made on the suspect's nationality - but gardai say they are satisfied the incident is not terror related.

Gardai say 'far-right' thugs are responsible for the civil unrest that followed; prolific accounts associated with the far-right have made as-yet-unsubstantiated claims that the attacker is an 'immigrant'.

A Holiday Inn Express hotel in the city centre was targeted by thugs who smashed its windows; the Reuters news agency also reports that a McDonald's was attacked.

'Hooligans' clash with police in Dublin hours after school stabbing

Once again I must say...the world has gone mad! I don't even post 99.9% of the sh*t I see on the Smart News app. It's all about horrendous murders, often by family members, even across the pond. I hope the perp gets put under the jail for the rest of his life!

What kind of demented person kills kids? Just horrible, but I can't help but think about how much worse it could have been if the attacker had a gun, like those in the US.

"Numerous vigils and memorials in Uvalde marked one year since the massacre at Robb Elementary School. In what became the deadliest school shooting in Texas, a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers and injured 17 others."

Every country has crazies. Ours are just more well-armed. I do hope this guy gets the maximum punishment.

The damage caused by the Dublin riots has been estimated at tens of millions, Leo Varadkar has said as the first suspected rioters appeared in court.
“The cars destroyed, the trams and buses damaged, we don’t have a figure on that yet, but it is likely to be in the tens of millions, not millions,” the Irish Taoiseach said, adding that affected businesses will receive government support.

“We’ll have to work out the details depending on whether they’re covered by insurance or not,” he said.
The first rioters appeared in court this afternoon after they brought chaos to Dublin city centre on Thursday evening.

Mr Varadkar earlier called the rioters “criminals” who are “filled with hate”.
Around 500 anti-migrant protesters descended on the streets of the capital after a man stabbed three small schoolchildren and a teacher outside a Dublin primary school.

Dublin riots: Damage to cost 'ten of millions'

The people of Ireland have had mass immigration forced on them for the last 10 years. Obviously some of the Irish people are reacting negatively to it all.

I'm not taking a side, just stating facts.
