Golden Batchelor - is this for real?

The producers of this show are in a rut. It's mostly about superficial stuff. In a short time, boring. Here's an idea...Why not change it up with real life human interest stories, where they are actually changing lives. Why not find a cast of mentally healthy but homeless people to do a makeover on them. No druggies. Then find them a soul mate.

There are so many who have a job but are living in their cars, some women with small children because they can't afford an apartment on their salary. Daycare rates are sky high. Or they've been screwed by scammers. Or divorce. Or suddenly widowed.

Bring out the attractiveness in them. Find them jobs. Get them out of their debt, etc. Start the show where they've already gotten their makeover. Use flashbacks for where they started and how far they've come. Viewers today LOVE human interest stories! And we need it now more than ever.

Here's another idea... Choose a cast of 21-somethings fresh out of college with great promise but on their own, smothered under a mountain of college debt and unable to find a good paying job. Pay off their debt, find them a job, then find a soulmate for them

You are describing the old Queen For A Day TV show. Except the women got something useful not a man to take care of.

Each contestant was asked to talk about the recent financial and emotional hard times she had been through. The interview would climax with Bailey asking the contestant what she needed most and why she wanted to win the title of Queen for a Day.[3] Often the request was for medical care or therapeutic equipment to help a chronically ill child, or might be for a hearing aid, a new washing machine, or a refrigerator. Many women broke down sobbing as they described their plights.

Well, I'm disappointed, I missed the first 40 mins of it.
He had his date w/Leslie and I really wanted to see that.

Hopefully, I'll catch it somewhere.

That reminds of Valerie Valpolicella who I dated years ago. A real winner and one of the many gals who got away. If she was a contestant, it would be all over for the rest of the crowd.

If you get Hulu you can watch all the episodes. I think Leslie will be the last one standing.
 
My friend who doesn't watch the show but has been reading about it in T.V. Guide says TVG love him. Apparently they feel he's a breath of fresh air compared to the quality of some of the men who have been Bachelors.
 
I would agree that he should select a widow. He can relate more with one. I never watched the show, but I would assume some of the women are divorcees, so may carry some bitterness about men.
I was 67 when my wife of 30 years passed away. I was certainly not as good looking or had as much hair as the Golden Bachelor.
However, I did manage to meet someone.

None of us are physically what we once were, and that's the truth. Hair is nice, but it's not really an important factor when defining the true essence of a person. It's not what's on top that counts; it's what's inside. I'm glad that you found someone. 🙂
 
This Golden Bachelor is unwatchable.

At least with the Bachelor, you have people you can't take your eyes off of. Then you just mute the TV and watch.

If you mute the Golden Bachelor, it just looks like a visit to an old folks home. And the message seems to be that you need to act like teenagers again in order to enjoy yourself.

I think you should pitch it Lara (to the network, that is). Who knows, maybe they'll create a show around your idea(s). Crazier breakout stories have happened. Also, the beautiful young lady in your new avatar (don't know if it's you or your daughter) reminds me very much of someone I've seen on T.V. but I just can't think of who it is.

Thank you for your words of encouragement Diva. Maybe I will do as you suggested if I can figure out who to contact.
My Avatar is me in my senior year of High School. I was on national TV once when I was 17 but I doubt you saw me so long ago.

You're welcome, of course. Let us know if you find out how to pitch your idea. The young lady I'm thinking of is currently on T.V. (or perhaps I saw her in a movie). Why were you on T.V.?
 
I've been following the whole show since this thread alerted me to it's beginning. The two finalists are Theresa who is a widowed, brainy financial wizard and and Leslie a twice divorced sexy dancer who once dated Prince.

They've had the episode where he meets the women's families (the grandkids were all adorable) and then the episode of "fantasy suites" where he gets to spend the night alone, away from the cameras, with each woman.

So next week they visit his two grown daughters and then he makes his final decision. Will he go for the sexy divorcee or the brainy widow?
 
@OneEyedDiva I've never had anyone say I look like anyone on TV so I don't know. As far as your question goes...it was a wonderful life changing experience that I cherish to this day but can't go into details. No it's not political or religious. Nothing like that. Just fun.

I think he chooses Theresa. Not a fan. She's needy. He's no prize though. He did those other women dirty by telling them he loved them.

I agree, But I'd like to think he just got caught up in the moment.
It's still got to hurt though.
