So happy to be spending Christmas with my family

First, thank you for letting me indulge and share my thoughts. My sister-in-law, who I love dearly, was diagnosed with breast cancer over a month ago. She has already undergone a lumpectomy and will begin chemo on December 7. She was supposed to start on November 30, but she has Covid. (She is okay.)

Some time ago, my partner and I talked about traveling to Florida to stay with her, her grown kids and my brother-in-law. I'd been going through a series of unexpected expenses and exceeding my household budget every month. He said if it wasn't financially feasible it wasn't necessary for me to go because they wouldn't be doing anything or going anywhere because she probably wouldn't be up to it. So he booked a trip and I didn't.

I woke up a couple of days ago and realized my family is so important to me it is worth whatever expense I incur for flights, hotel, etc. The other big expense is that we board our two cats. Our vet charges $37 per cat per day. I called around yesterday to find that our vet has no space, along with two other boarders. I finally reached a Petshotel today that can take them. I'm so excited now to be with my extended family and show support for my SIL. It will be a different kind of Christmas, but probably the most meaningful I've ever spent.

I am so happy you were able to make those plans Doug! It's something for you to look forward too and I'm sure they will love having you their to support. Please let me know how you make out with the boarding situation. I don't think we'll need to board our cat anytime soon (next foreseeable time is in a little less than 2 years during our family reunion trip). Her vet stopped boarding but there's a place a few towns over. i'm thinking of taking her, maybe for an overnight stay, in the near future just to see how she does. Does the Petshotel charge the same as the vet did?

Thank you!

No, Petshotel, which is inside Petsmart, charges much less. We used to board our cats there but the vet's office is 5 minutes away from our house and the vet inspects them during their boarding to make sure everything is okay. During the last boarding she saw a lesion on Andy's gum so he had a dental cleaning. Your little Deja hopefully is much too young for you to be concerned about checkups at this point.

She just had a check up. She was due for her rabies booster last Wednesday. He's happy with the way she's coming along but she's about a pound over where she should be for a cat her size. She goes back on Dec 6th for the distemper shot. I meant to have him check her teeth and gums last time...thanks for the reminder. I'll make sure it's done in Dec. I think the Petsmart here stopped boarding cats and just do dogs now.

Best wishes for your sister-in-law .. you've made the right decision, and will have no regrets 🤗

I'm so sorry to hear of your sister in law and I hope her treatment is successful. What a worry for her and all family. 🤗

I'm glad you chose to make the trip and I hope the new cat boarding place will be good for your kitties.

@seadoug Have a wonderful family Christmas and hopefully your sister-in-law will have a good recovery. :)
