More than 200 cases have been reported in Oregon. Cases have popped up in a few other states. My BFF and I were talking about it yesterday and she said she heard it is airborne. I hope your dogs will stay safe.

"The mysterious respiratory illness that may have sickened scores of dogs across the country could be caused by a new type of bacterial infection that may be very good at evading the canine immune system, researchers say. Some dogs have died from the illness, which starts with causes a cough that can last for weeks, runny eyes and sneezing."
Mysterious dog respiratory illness: What to know

I have been reading about this all over the internet. I believe there was 9 cases reported here recently in L.A. Strange and unusual diseases have been occuring right and left. Ever since the occurrence of AIDs there seems to be something new popping up. We get one problem solved and then there is a new one. Maybe nature is whispering the message that our time is up. Something will eventually out witt us and it will be our end.

I have quit walking my two Maltese because of the virus. because they are only 5lbs they can get plenty of exercise inside playing together and me throwing their toys.
Smart move! Haven't heard about any feline illnesses breaking out lately but I assured Deja's vet, who's very against letting cats go outdoors, that I won't even let her out on the patio. We get squirrels and birds out there. Dogs have to be on leashes but who knows what she could pick up, even on the patio. When the weather gets nice again, I'll probably let her get air by sitting out there with her in her carrier which will be elevated off the ground on a large tote that's out there.

There’s a woman in my condo complex that puts her cat on a leash and they sit outside and read in nice weather in the courtyard. I always enjoy seeing them. It’s perfect because dogs aren’t allowed there and kids can’t play there so the kitty doesn’t get disturbed. Here cats that go outside are called coyote cookies.

Occasionally a mountain lion or Bob cat also comes down from the mountains. That’s why when I had a house I never had a doggy door because predators can easily jump a 6 foot fence.

I am not sure how general this behavior is becoming in L.A. but a neighbor who frequently goes out of town and kennels his dog at a local kennel company is now leaving his dog with a neighbor who loves dogs but has not pets of his own. Safer for the dog that way.
