Do men have more needs than women?

Listening to Radio 4, I cannot remember the programme, but they discussed the saying that men think about 'you know what' every 6 seconds. To test this, a survey was conducted at a university where girls and boys were given a clicker and told to click it every time they had ANY need or urge - food, drink, sleep and so on.

The results were interesting. It was found that boys clicked twice as much as the girls. Which indicates that they have twice as many needs of every kind than girls.

It's only one survey, but I think this rings true. Maybe us women have fewer requirements in life so we spend quite a lot of time ensuring our men are happy! More seriously it would be interesting to research if addictions like gambling, drinking etc are predominantly a male or female thing? Maybe women do not need constant stimulation compared to men.
Only as a general question of course.

Seems a stretch to somehow link a thought of food, drink, sleep, or even sex to be considered a "need" or an "urge". Many years ago I heard about a study that concluded a typical male "thought" about sex with more frequency than a typical female, but I am not about to try to research this. My own personal experience is I do not feel a "need" or "urge", every 6 seconds for food, drink, sleep, or sex. Maybe I am an outlier.

Given this subject matter, I think it's important to distinguish between wants and needs, and I assume it means, in order to be happy or satisfied in life. That being said, I think there probably isn't that much difference between the amount of needs to be happy, but those needs are just different, or have a different flavor, if you will. Perhaps the desire for an intimate connection may be universal, but in general, it is more comprehensive in women than men.

Men may feel they need their "toys" to be happy, whereas women are nesters by nature, and need a comfortable home that is decorated to suit their personalities. Men tend to desire more excitement and adventure, but with women, it tends to be perhaps dancing, a night out, or enjoying the arts, or great conversation.

So to land the plane here, I just think the needs are different, but it's also person specific. In either gender, some just need more than others to be happy. Some are more content with the simple pleasures, and yet others need a high degree of stimulation from other things.

Sounds like total baloney to me. The very fact of having a clicker would obviously skew the results. These studies seem designed to set up an antipathy between the sexes; disagreement and heated debate always makes for better radio and tv.

The truth is, we are all humans and our needs vary according to the individual, their social status, personal circumstances, time of life etc. We are far more complicated than clicking a little counter can ever explain...

Well, the women here sure love this topic.

I agree that many men think about sex/ women often, probably more than women. But a lot of that thinking is remembering, visualizing, planning, analyzing, etc. And yes, sometimes they think about "needing". This discussion about needs, wants, must haves, etc. etc. is a very complex issue that cannot be summarized without valid research. Our brains, men and women, are amazing, and they are working 24/7. My opinion that this topic is fun but has nothing to do with what really is going on in men's heads...!

That's why I kept my post short and sweet-simple. Leave the rest to your imagination.

Yeah, it's probably a dangerous question in some ways. A guy might let it slip what kind of idealized image he's formed about the ladies based on little beside the way they project themselves here.

It could get embarrassing. I'm sure HD doesn't wield a hammer rivaling Mjölnir.

I think this only proves that women's most urgent desires, or their top priorities, are different than men's.

Men are happiest when they can count on a good meal, some good nukie, and a good sleep. Preferably, on a regular basis.
