Does Anyone Make Their Pets Food Instead of Buying Pet food?

Just wondering if anyone makes their own pets food instead of buying packaged pet food.

I am thinking of making my dog's food that's why I ask

I remember visiting my grandma as a young lad, she was cooking chicken. I asked, "Oh good, are we having chicken tonight, she replied, "No, this is for Bozo (her dog)."

She was a huge animal lover, I remember walking the woods in Holland Michigan with her as a boy. She would place all the left overs from the night before in the woods to feed the animals. Magical memories. She also was a huge factor in developing my love for reading. Gosh, I miss her.

Wonderful heartfelt story, thank you đź’•!

If I'm a good boy and lucky, I'll get some of the fur babies leftovers. :) Wife makes all their food... no floor sweepings or cans of unknown mush for them. Oh no... meals are rice (sometimes white or sometimes brown) with beef and veggies, or spaghetti with cheese and veggies, then some oatmeal with turkey or chicken. On occasion, for a change, they'll be fish.
Now I getting hungry...Think I'll go check the fridge. :)

I would talk to the vet first before you make any changes. As Suzy is having issues with her throat you don't want to give her any thing that might cause a problem. I would be concerned about possible choking or having something get into her lungs if she has a coughing spell while eating.

I don't make food for my dogs but I do mix in some green beans, carrots or pumpkin in their dry food sometimes.

I did for a time. His lower GI couldn’t handle it. He is an odd dog. I couldn’t take the sleep disruption. A couple of emergency yard visits every night. I require uninterrupted sleep.

I don't cook for Mason but I do feed him fresh, real human-grade dog food.
It's better than if I did cook it myself, because it's approved by vet nutritionists, so I know it's good to go.

Thing is though, it's expensive !!! ... costs me $200 a month for my 55lb dog.
I don't spend $200 a month on my own food (well maybe just) and weigh a bit more than Mason.
Mason loves the meals and it's definitely good for him on a couple of levels over kibble and such.

Comes in a box designed to keep frozen, with meals individually packaged for each daily serving.
No guess work involved. Food is kept in a 3.5cu.ft. freezer and I place one package in the frig each day to thaw out for the next day.

Did I mention it's expensive? ... The Farmer's Dog
The price will depend on the size of your dog, but will still be more expensive than you've ever spent on your dog.

I thought about it but it seems like waaaay too much trouble. Hell, I hardly want to cook for myself. I also read that "people food" is not necessarily the greatest for cats. But I guess of it's supplemented with cat vitamins that would okay because cats need taurine along with other vitamins.
