Allright, I'll say it I dig Benny Hill!

There are shows I seem to remember as better than they seem now. Shows I tried to catch every episode of when they were new. I haven't looked back at Benny Hill lately but it might be one of those.

This was a classic show back in the day, even when I didn't quite get it as a youngster.

His leering, chasing, and everything else was the entire point. He mixed slapstick with silent movie parodies and stage craft. It was dumb, silly, and constantly played off double entendre's. Ultimately, it was a lot of fun, if shallow experience.

One of my favorite British comedians. Completely rude, stupid, slapstick humor that my father and I watched it when I was young. When my father's health was failing, Benny Hill was a laughable, ignorant bond we shared and watched when we got together. :cautious:
I remember watching him years ago. He was hilarious! I didn't agree with everything that was going on, but the majority of his comedy was funny.

I loved Benny Hill.

There was a funny situation here in my town when the local TV station somehow got hold of a British episode (I guess there were a few episodes especially for the British audience that were deemed too risque to be shown on U.S. television) and mistakenly showed it.

It was a brief flash of upper female nudity and the station caught hell from the FCC and got fined especially because it was being shown during "family hours" (roughly 7-10 p.m.)

I was watching and I thought "Oh, no, I didn't see that did I?" It was in the newspaper a couple of days later.

Jeez, now anything seems to go......

I've been a big fan of British television for over 50 years. I own a lot of British shows (and one Australian show). There were very few British shows that I didn't like. But one that I never liked was The Benny Hill Show. It's still the worst British show that I have ever seen. While some Americans were watching that nonsense. I preferred Monty Python's Flying Circus. I laughed myself silly.

I still rank these 2 television shows as the worst shows in each country.

U.K.- The Benny Hill Show
U.S.- Hee Haw

Sometimes dumb humor is what I need. I've laughed at Benny Hill even though I wouldn't say I was a fan. But then, I even enjoyed Hee Haw.

Monty Python wasn't dumb, but it was certainly silly. There's a place for that too.
