Ridiculous request for a tip

I bought a new band for my Apple Watch. It’s supposedly handmade. Where it is made is not clear. Probably Asia. Company is online. I get to the checkout, and see tax and shipping, and total amount due. And the request for a tip for their “hard working artisans,” so the company could “provide them with treats like candy or lunch,” I could check a box for 15, 20, or 25 percent.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I declined. Not only do I think that’s wrong, how do I know those hard working artisans will see a nickel? The nerve of some people!

That would be sweet if it were true. Is there a way for you to research the company to see if that is legit? If it is a company that is specifically devoted to providing work to some poor area maybe its a real thing to give tips. Hopefully it isn't like in the US where employers can pay less to employees that get a tip.

The only place I give tips to in a jar is at the sandwich shop. I tend to request extra pickles and lettuce. It they make my sandwich as requested, I am happy to put something in the tip jar.

I agree.

If the company's corporate heart is so concerned about the happiness of their employees, give them a pay raise. Ya cheap, no good............
Along with this, I hate being asked at check out counters to give to starving kids, dying whales, name a disease and they have it people, or save whatever. If corporations want to be do-gooders, do it out of their profits.
