So what is the latest series you've watched and why did you like it? I'll start with one of mine....it was 1883 with Sam Elliot, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Isabel May.

I loved it because it was a realistic western about immigrants crossing the plains and the troubles they ran into. The oldest daughter of the lead couple (Faith Hill and Tim McGraw) was a head strong young woman who didn't hesitate to go against the conventions of the day. In one of the last few episodes she and the native man that she fell in love with had a spectacular moment of declaring their undying love to one another that is making me weepy even as I write this and remember it. (I might just go back to watch that scene again just because it was so beautiful🥲).

We have watched almost all of Mike Flanagan's shows on Netflix. We've watched Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Blye Manor, The Haunting of Hill House and (our favorite) The Fall of the House of Usher based on the Edgar Allen Poe stories. They aren't for the faint of heart, but he typically uses the same actors in each series so we get to know them and it is interesting to see the different roles they play.

BTW, I do love Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. What a great couple!

We watched Barry, which has been cancelled, sigh. Also Our Flag Means Death and I'm anxiously awaiting for Somebody Somewhere and Hacks to come back.

Debrah mentioned Sam Eliot, who is a fascinating actor and the movie "Prancer " he was in, has been on DirectV lately and is a wonderful Christmas movie for kids as well as anyone at any age.

My husband's favorite writer was Louis L'Amore, who wrote westerns , and one of those books , "The Quick and The Dead", is a movie with Sam Eliot in it.

My daughter was a equestrian, and this movie has the most thrilling horseback ride I have ever seen. These are both old movies, but great ones.

Oh yeah, Midnight Mass was a good one! Also really enjoyed The Fall of the House of Usher. I like those sorts far more than the slasher type of film or even the sort that focus on lots of people all shooting each other and taking out the bad guy, like the 'John Wick' movies. The two you mentioned are a lot more about humans and how we think, behave, our morality, where we draw the line and the good in us (if there is any).

I can't remember if I've ever seen 'The Quick and the Dead'. Maybe I'll look that up. But there are sooo many shows of all sorts to choose from nowadays aren't there? Something for everyone.

I just finished the 3 episodes of season 2...(y)(y)(y)
Re Reacher - I’m so spoiled by shows where the whole season comes out in bulk. This is a really good series and I want to see the whole thing ….NOW. We’ll watch episode 3 tonight and then have to wait until next Sunday for the 4th episode.

Off topic - do you think the actor, Alan Ritchson has bulked up even more than he did for the first season.

I've recently joined the streaming system from my provider. These are the favourites so far... Our playlists are getting very long 🤣

Watched with daughter as she was too young when series came out: Doogie Bowser, MD.

Royalists at heart, we enjoy The Crown...

As we'd missed loads of episodes and with the demised of Matthew Perry, the series of Friends!

Looking forward to the Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson TV series coming 2024.

Obliterated on Netflix is hardly a highbrow series, but is certainly outrageous, and definitely not for children or your maiden aunt! The F-bomb is a regular part of the dialogue, there is gratuitous violence, and both nudity and s*x. It’s kind of like an action movie on steroids, and I watch it probably just to see how outrageous it will get! It’s quite offensive, but curiously you can’t turn away from it, either.

The core plot involves a team of elite operatives each with a mad skill set who are sent out to stop a terroristic group from detonating a nuclear device in Las Vegas. They are all stereotypes of one kind or another, like Hagerty, the team bomb expert who has been doing illegal substances since the 1960’s. Then there’s Trunk, a powerful black dude reminiscent of Mr. T who’s perpetually hungry, and has an enormous male member (which you are shown, probably computer-generated).

Viewers have called this both the best and the worst thing that they have seen, much like American politics. You have been properly warned…

Most of the new stuff is paywalled, and I'm not paying for it. That's a big part of why kids are so darned broke these days.

Instead I catch up on pre-pandemic series that I had missed. Plenty of those on free ad-supported services.

Just discovered Virgin River.

Just been renewed for season

I seem to recall watching Barry a couple years ago. If it's the one I'm thinking of, I liked it too. He was a hitman wasn't he? And he had taken up community theatre or something like that in an effort to 'find' himself or deal with personal issues? Haven't heard of the other three though.

Yes, Barry was the hitman; the show wasn't my usual cuppa tea but I really liked it. The other 3 are comedies; Our Flag means death is a spoofy pirate comedy; Somebody is a dramady (I think it's called) and Hacks is a comedy.

Sounds pretty volatile and I'm more into things that are a little less confrontational these days. We just finished the last episode of Ted Lasso and I absolutely loved it! Wonderful characters that grow and change through the three seasons and terrific life lessons! Unfortunately for some who don't like paying for their streaming services, it is on Apple TV but if any of you ever notice it somewhere else, take a peek. You might love it too.

Well, I'll try and keep those in mind for the day when I'm in the mood for a chuckle.
