Pre-teen girl having seizures

I have a casual friend around my age whose granddaughter is living with her because the parents broke up. The woman is rushing the girl to the ER several times a week because of seizures. Doctors can't find any medical or physical reason for them. Could it just be an attention-getting ploy?

Yes, it could be. But I'd only be comfortable after exhausting every avenue for diagnosis.

..or it could be absolutely genuine. It won't be the first time Doctors couldn't find a reason for an ailment...

Pseudoseizures would be my bet. If she has also a history of hyperventilation.​

Has she always had seizures?
If so, they escalate at the pre-teen stage

They need to see a neurosurgeon
Could be Dravet syndrome
Nothing to play with
Get counseling
Our 10 yr old granddaughter has it
Not expected to see her teens

Pseudoseizures would be my bet. If she has also a history of hyperventilation.​

I looked up pseudoseizures. That does sound a great deal like what the grandmother related.

"Seizures" is a general term. It's like "money", it matters if you mean dollars, yen, rubles, pounds, euros, etc. If her "seizures" are neuralgically consistent with a known type of seizure, the cause may be unknown. Pseudoseizures are usually easy to spot.
