Oh dear, seems I forgot to pay a toll bill

Wow. Lucky they're not adding interest from 1995 on it. Wait ... Malaysia? And you were notified by SMS?
This is starting to sound like a scam.

Absolute obvious scam.
Plus the toll was paid with cash at booths set about 50kms apart on the Expressway.

The NJ EZpass has gotten to be completely aggravating. We went on vacation back in June, and forgot to bring cash for the tolls. So what usually happens is the cameras capture your license plate, and then you will be billed. At least twice already, after I wrote a check and paid the toll, with an explanation about why it wasn't paid on the road, they come back with scary words like violation, threatening legal action, etc. And forget calling and explaining; no one ever answers the phone.

This time I got a picture of the canceled check, wrote a letter and sent it certified mail. I can't believe in this day and age that they can't get their acts together.

Wow, that's a new scam I haven't heard about. I haven't been over a toll bridge or otherwise in years. This is good to know however for people who do encounter them.

The EZpass here in Calif. has gotten crazy too. Both my Huzz and one of my nephews have gotten erroneous bills for someone else;s car; both charges were for tolls at a city 4 hours away from here. Both bills were argued away successfully. My nephew said they told him that it was rampant in that big city for people to use paint on their license plates so someone else would get charged the toll.

About 15-16 years ago, the Spousal Equivalent sold a motorcycle trailer to a friend of his son's, who sold it to someone else, who sold it. He was never able to get the license plate back from the person he sold it to. He should have immediately notified the license bureau but for some reason didn't.

About six years ago, we started getting notices of a car with that license plate running through toll booths without paying. It wasn't his car, of course. He eventually got it straightened out with the license bureau people and didn't have to pay the fines.

How could someone with a license plate that had been expired for almost 10 years not get caught?
