The Welfare-Industrial Complex Is Booming

The goal of liberal politicians is to create a permanent underclass that will vote for them forever to keep the welfare coming.
That's so last century, it's not nearly vile enough for our current sensibilities. I think we've moved on to "the poisoning of the blood of our country."

Ditto. I'm on a political debate forum that requires anyone who makes a statement to provide a link to it. I have learned quite a bit because I have to find a credible source to back up my claims. Sometimes I even find out that I was wrong before posting my opinion.

:D

Hey, I'm not a walking encyclopedia either! I sometimes find myself typing something, and then I check and find I'm out of date, and things have changed. I also sometimes begin to make a post, do a little research, and then find it's going to take too much time to do it right, so give up. Then there are other times, such as a recent thread that mentioned the word "invasion" in terms of the Constitution, when I just couldn't find a good legal definition that would apply.

Being wrong isn't a bad thing, but being ignorant is. In much of the political rhetoric going on today, much of it can be easily dismissed with the minimal amount of research - but too few people check. Such as, for example, if a wall was built it would stop all the immigrants coming into the country. The numbers don't support that, since the vast majority of them come across legal borders.

Of course, this isn't a political forum.

That's pretty wild - that link was live when I posted it. The NYC Controller did publish the daily rate and I'm pretty sure that Allysia Finley found it in the Controller's report as I did.

The US follows our laws regarding asylum seekers in that if they make it here they entitled to apply. It's then our duty as other people to take care of them at taxpayers expense, until they can work or they're denied asylum. If that means taxes are going to be raised so be it.

I'm not interested in debating the WSJ political hit piece, it's raw meat for the "base" solely intended for maximizing the number of views. Her narrative, her opinion as a right wing insider hasn't changed what you're doing economically and it hasn't stopped me from investing in American companies, either. Get back to me when current events force you to go to cash, or short the market because that's when we'll know something's gone really wrong.

The comptroller managed to leave a lot out of his facts. Note the word crisis is used by mayors all over the America. The 1st. two points minimal wording the last sheds light on why the word crisis is in use.

Broadly, “first-entry” asylum agreements require the signatory parties to agree to accept and process asylum seekers if they enter their territory first.

The arrival of more than 3 million illegal immigrants during the 2023 fiscal year, according to official reports from Customs and Border Protection (CBP),

https://voz.us/almost-10-million-il...-since-biden-entered-the-white-house/?lang=en

https://www.budget.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/rector_testimony_913.pdf

illegal or unauthorized aliens are persons who reside in the nation unlawfully; they have entered and reside in the country without legal permission or have entered the country on a temporary visa and have remained here after its expiration. The current net fiscal cost of illegal aliens in the U.S. is between $84 and $94 billion per year. This means that illegal aliens receive $84 to $94 billion more in government benefits and services than they pay in total taxes.

The use of fear to describe what I see as happening works for those that don't want to acknowledge the negative impact of the massive influx of illegal immigrants. There is no doubt that immigrants that enter America the right way do contribute .

I'm so done with the perceived need to state this over and over. It is implied, and everyone already knows it unless they are very, very dim.

There is no conflation or confusion between "illegal immigrants" and "immigrants" aside from attempts to do so in order to silence those who speak out. It is the same tactic we see when they try to convince people that "conspiracy" and "conspiracy theory" are the same thing.

And it is purely political, whipping up derangement apparently being the intent.

Does that mean those that don't differentiate between illegal & legal immigrants are not understanding the cost impact of illegal entry on legal American citizens?

Impacting the well being of Americans IMO isn't about politics. It's about different opinions on the long term impact of continued illegal immigration. It's understood the federal government collect taxes so the point of sanctuary cities demanding funding help from the federal government will in some negative way impact tax payers.

Of course he did. Once the WSJ widely published the $394/day per diem expense likely the Mayor ordered the report removed and replaced w the typical sunshine and roses as per the 1/4/24 report linked above. The Mayor and Comptroller are at odds on several issues wrt to the expense of caring for the migrants.

I'd suggest that they either profit politically or financially from illegal immigration or have had their minds captured by those who do.

It is less about the costs than NIMBYism or even outright personal advantage. They prey on the misery involved.
