Anyone Enjoy Woodturning Videos?

I've done some wood turning and I thought that was fun if a bit scary. I don't really like the red and blue plastic, but that's just me.
Yeah, I was initially turned off by using resin to fill the wood to such a great extent, colored or otherwise.

But I think it allows them to create large bowls and such from smaller, or more irregular, or salvaged unusual stock. They also do things like "glue up" and fill large numbers of bamboo lengths or weird things like colored pencils.

have you seen the colored pencil bowl?
I know it's just a matter of taste, but to me that's just a waste of a bunch of colored pencils. Wood is beautiful on its own.
One of mine. It's 5 inches tall.

That was really interesting. I enjoyed the acrylic mixed with wood but do prefer wood. I’ve got an industrial lathe and have turned both wood and acrylic to make hair accessories. I find wood more predicable to turn than acrylic and it finishes nicer. Some acrylic shatters if you hit it at the wrong angle with the chisel or if the chisel isn’t sharp enough. Learning how to sharpen them is an art form itself.
It’s been years since I’ve turned.

Interesting thread ... my stepdad used to love woodturning and was always producing beautiful little boxes and things. I never actually ever watched him do it so it was interesting to see how it's done.
