Pumpkin Oat Non-Dairy Beverage

If it was that pumpkin spice flavouring that is so popular in the fall, nope I wouldn't have taken it. Pumpkin pie I like, but not pumpkin flavoured beverages. Don't know why but it just doesn't seem right to me.

And all I drink is non-dairy milk but I prefer soy milk over oat or almond milk. Those are just to 'thick' for me. Even when I did drink a little regular milk, I hated whole milk and only bought skimmed.

I remember making oat milk a couple of times, but I didn’t really like the taste of it unless I added flavoring , like vanilla and some sweetener. In general I like the flavored pumpkin spice drinks, like with coffee; so I think it might be fine to use in coffee, but I would not likely just be drinking that as a special drink with (or without ) a meal.

For plant milk, I prefer coconut milk first, and then almond milk next. Soy is not bad, but not my favorite, so I usually mix it with coconut to give it a creamier flavor .

I buy soy for the higher protein levels in it although mostly I just use it on my cereal or to make sauces. There's also a couple of brands of non-dairy egg nog around Christmas. I think one might be a soy base and the other oat and those are delicious. Less fatty mouth feel, although I'm sure the sugar count is as high as any egg nog.

These were being given away at the senior center this week. I took two cartons. It tastes okay, but not something that would keep me awake at night thinking about its deliciousness.
Would you have taken any?

Non-Dairy Pumpkin Oat Beverage
Nope, not a chance.

Full-fat coconut milk is also my first choice of non-dairy milk, followed by hemp milk. My third choice is macadamia nut milk. I absolutely loathe soy milk.

Even the plant-based creamers taste watery to me, and it is easy enough to make milk from almonds, coconuts, or oatmeal; so I just make it myself when I want some.
Except for creamer in my coffee or tea, I really do not use milk for much of anything; so I only make small batches when i do make it. The homemade milk, made with a blender is so much creamier and has a lot more nutrition than the watery stuff they sell at the grocery stores.

I like soy for cooking and on hot cereal. It's a little heavy for me on cold cereal. I also use oat. Rice is good but higher sugar. I used to like almond but it disagrees with my stomach now.

Oat Milk lacks the Lactose found in cows milk. Most are probably familiar with the term Old Fart. For many of us the fart is generated by an age related allergy to the Lactose in milk and various milk products. Almond milk, Oat milk, and various other Milk substitutes lack Lactose and are therefore not fart generators. (-8

I’d try a small glass, but it’s more of a mixer for me than a sipper. Trader Joe’s pumpkin-oat has about 2g protein and 8g added sugar per cup, so it’s cozy but on the sweet, low-protein side.

What I do:

  • Splash it in coffee or chai, or whisk into oatmeal/overnight oats.
  • If I want more protein, I use soy milk (about 7–9g per cup) and add my own pumpkin + spice same flavor, better staying power.
  • Homemade oat milk is easy if store brands taste “watery” blend, strain, and don’t over-blend to avoid sliminess.

On cozy days I make a gentle, not-too-sweet mug at home: pumpkin spice chai latte (works with oat, soy, or almond). It gives me that fall flavor without a sugar rush.

I drink coconut milk and cashew milk . I’m not a fan of soy milk at all and I’ll tolerate almond milk. I’d have to taste the pumpkin oat milk first before guessing if I like it . I don’t think I’m a fan of oat milk though. Like I said, I’d have to try it. Generally speaking I like pumpkin pie flavouring so not sure.
