For 15yrs, I've run Linux Mint Mate on my desktop ... no security required beyond a firewall.

I have a laptop running Windows 11 Home and have nothing more security wise than comes with Windows 11 out of the box.
Defender and a firewall.

The only time I use that laptop is when I need to run an *.exe Microsoft file for one reason or another.
... Or when I want to cast my computer screen to my smart TV. That's done wirelessly in one click with Windows 11.
Haven't figured out how to do it with Linux Mint except with HDMI cable and enabling second monitor. Too much trouble.

My browsers all run uBlock Origin and Disconnect but those are content blockers rather than what I would consider "security".

I use LibreOffice to handle Office programs and have Java disabled and Macro Security set to Very High.

EDIT: In Firefox I use Firefox Multi-Account Containers. Web sites placed into those containers do not share cookies nor or they even available to other sites or parties outside of the containers. Also available in conjunction with the Multi-Account Containers is Mozilla VPN for an extra layer of privacy, but I have not enabled that.

I'm thinking of trying Linux on my 2 PC's. They're old and unable to upgrade to Win 11. Still looking over the Flavors of Linux and I'm looking towards what you're running, Mint. There are a lot of people on security forums I'm a member of that run Linux, so the help is there if I need it.

Of the different flavors of Linux Mint, I find Mate to work best for me. And it would work better than Linux Mint Cinnamon on older PC's. Either would work, but Mate is slightly lighter on resources. Linux Mint Mate is what I started with in 2009, about the time Microsoft stopped supporting XP, and it's the Linux version I've stuck with. Always stable while it's gotten better and better with each new release.

why do you still have Catalina.,.. you should be running Sonoma 14.2.1

I have an old Mac, iMac late 2015. I can only upgrade to macOS Monterey 12.
Why haven't I upgraded to Monterey? Because I don't like it. Any OS above Catalina looks more like an iPad and not a computer. Steve Jobs is probably rolling over in his grave now seeing what Apple has done with his baby (Mac).

Is sharing your security system set up really a good idea?
Have you ever been on a security forum? Members always post what they're running. You see it in their signature also. Malware comes from "Happy Clickers" clicking on all types of links. If I'm unfamiliar with a link, I'll run that link in a "Sandbox" first to see what's in it, then empty the "Sandbox".

Here's an example from a Security Forum of members posting their security software. This thread started in December 2005 and is still going:

No I’ve never been on a security forum.
It doesn’t interest me. I’m not trying to stop anyone from sharing what they want. I , personally , just don’t think it’s a good idea.
