NFL fans furious as playoff game to be broadcast on pay tv channel only

The good news is that the coverage of games has gotten to the point where you have to mute the TV to watch it anymore.

A guy successfully does what he's paid a fortune to do and we have to hear how he's one of the best to ever play the game.

Then there's the replaying every play because nobody has an attention span anymore.

I've turned off games and watched game shows instead.

Got that right with the mute button. I frequently put the local announcers on the radio on. There's a delay but it makes more interesting when I'm actually paying attention because when the tv crew is analyzing the play the locals are calling the play. And frequently notice as much as the national crew.

If any games are on FREE channels on my TV, I will watch ... not if, then I will just catch up with the scores/outcome on ESPN.com

We have an NBC wildcard game this Saturday between Cleveland and Houston.
Locally it will be shown in our area w/o paying, so I will watch that one.

I really don't expect Houston to get very far in the playoffs this year.

Hey, no shame...I thought it was going to be a tough fight but that the Browns might pull it off with their D. I don't think anyone was expecting the rout that it was!

I'm a Niners fan but of course was rooting for the Texans as we LOVED Demeco Ryans here in SF. So much better a DC than our current DC Steve Wilks, whom I sincerely hope someone poaches away from us, because he's barely average compared to our previous DCs (Robert Saleh and Demeco). Altho Wilks did help our secondary (that's his specialty) even if he seems to encourage the grabby-hands tackling that gets PIs called against us almost every frickin' time......ggrrrrrr.

And as a long-time football fan in general I really enjoy watching CJ Stroud. That kid is REALLY something - looking forward to hopefully a successful and healthy future for him.

JustBonee, you'll enjoy reading this article. It compares the D stats of the 2022 Texans vs the 2023 Texans. What Demeco Ryans Hath Wrought!

Wow...Titans won a post season game. Guess quit watching them mid-season was a mistake.:)
Since they used to be the Oilers, I understand the mistake.
(Also a 49er fan since I married the wife and her cousin was playing for them.)

We're getting all the games (including the Chiefs/Dolphins game) on our regular cable channels here in Canada, thank goodness. Although I really enjoy watching the NFL games all season, probably wouldn't pay extra for a streaming service that I would never use other than watching a game or two.

Those "furious" NFL fans couldn't have been too furious to pay up.

The Peacock streaming had viewership of 23 million, far exceeding the previous streaming-only game on Amazon Video. The NFL will definitely go ahead with its intent to move into streaming; they're negotiating to buy most of ESPN.

Fans furious as the NFL decides allows a playoff game to be broadcast on a pay tv channel only.

NFL on Peacock: Football fans furious over NBC's plans to show 2023 playoff game exclusively on streaming service
good turn em off---see how that works for them......you can find it on the internet anyway, but why go to the trouble ....that is the way I deal with paywalls.......if everyone did that nobody would read their mostly b.s. anyway....good, go out of business

But how many actually purchased cable or Peacock after it was announced that would be the game streamed?

Peacock usually comes with a cable package or bundle? Just as ESPN does?

Part of trend just as ticket and concession pricing I guess. If a fan won't sweat cable tv service they won't sweat over priced concessions. They will priceout a segment of the fan base but if they get fans that will pay high prices for a while they'll make money

Apparently high-priced ticket sales aren't off-setting the cost of multi-million dollar player contracts and building and expanding arenas. And $8 sodas, $15 hot-dogs, and $60 t-shirts are not helping, either.

How did they not know this was unsustainable? Especially with a bunch of new NFL regulations year after year that are confusing as hell, totally frustrating, and some that even take a lot of fun out of the game.

Yeah, no duh, you're gonna lose spectators.

Not only have I seen stories of about 30% filled stadiums by taking out a demographic they also take out future fans ie kids exposed to it at younger would be more likely to continue as an adult once they make money. But no more casual cheap or reasonable family/kids outings means fewer kids will want to attend later in life.

The biggest example I've seen of pricing out future customers is the baseball/collectible sports card market when they went from larger cheaper packs of cards to the metal plated cards for collectors-not kids looking for a fun or cool hobby. By the end of last century the card market went from roaring less than 10 years earlier to a dead fad. They took out the casual but regular customers.

Sometimes greed breeds stupidity, I guess. Stupidity and tunnel vision.

very obvious and even the diehards are starting to catch on-- will be another season or so- then they will be sucking it along with lots of other established mediums as we used to know them --newspapers magazines, banks, in person transactions, trust in government, politicians, medical, and the usual suspects- car dealers personal injury lawyers some religion affiliated folks and on and on.---------one good thing may have developed from all the turmoil in the last few years ..skepticism and obvious corruption -not that hard to see, if consider the big picture
