I don't have a new kitten yet, but I'm thinking ahead. Hopefully, I will get my kitty in April, and I want to have a name already picked out.

I'm very fussy about what I name my cats. I have 3 rules that the name must conform to. A few months ago, I started making lists of names that all follow my rules. Initially, I had over 80 names.

Gradually, I have narrowed down the list to 3 choices....and now I'm stuck. So I was wondering what my SF friends had to say. Here are the finalists.....

Goober (Goob)

Nugget (Nugg)

Tater Tot (Tater)

Sorry, I can't vote. I love cats but am allergic but if I ever get a hairless cat I shall call it Pounce!!
I love that name! Along with Purcy!

Unfortunately, one of the restrictions (for my cat, only) is nothing with the letter "S", "Z", or "soft C". In short, nothing that would sound similar to a "hisss".

That being said, there are plenty of great names that do have those letters/sounds.

You could still vote, I'm only looking for people's opinion between the last 3 finalists.

You have to wait until you have the kitten then match a name to its personality.
Normally, I would agree. However, let's just say that I'm trying to "get a feel" on a possible name.

The outcome of this poll is not the final decision! This is just for fun...I'm interested which of the 3 choices would get the most votes.

Are you interested in suggestions outside of your 3?
If so...

Female: Kiki, Tilly, Gigi
Male: Riley, Monty, Oliver(Ollie), Ringo
Some of those names are actually on the original list! I guess we think alike! 😁

My last 3 cats had names that ended in the long "E" sound: Andy, Opie, Barney. So I was looking to avoid that ending this time.

BTW: the new kitten will be a male, short haired, orange or ginger tabby. 🐱

I thought of something else that I probably should have mentioned.....

All of our cats have been named after characters that lived in Mayberry! This started out as an accident, but then we just continued with it. Our cats names were:
Gomer (Pile)
Barney (Fife)
Opie (Taylor)
Andy (Taylor),

So, there is only one more name from the t.v. show that fits my 3 rules. That would be Goober (Pile).

So, I wonder if I should continue with the tradition, or just go to something else. Any cat that I get after this one would not be a Mayberry name, anyway.

Although I would wait and see what the kitten's personality was like, I voted for Goob because I liked a movie that had a character called Goob (I think it was the Meet the Robinson's kid's movie).

I didn't vote for Nugget because I knew a horse named Nugget and my brain can't downsize my impression of who a Nugget would be.

Tater sounds too much like Hater for me. But Tot would be nice maybe.

I agree to wait until you have the kitten 🐈‍⬛ then pick a name to suite the cat. The cat might have an orange patch that looks like a pumpkin or stripes to look like a tiger 🐅

I have always lived by "listening" to the cat and they will tell you their name. Once when I still had rats, I was bringing a pair home from the breeder. Suddenly , in my head, I hear a very loud BEAR.....and one of then was sitting in the carrier staring at me. So, Bear he became. But that is just me

In most cases, I'm like you.....they will tell you their name, and so much more. This situation is an exception.

Again....the poll is just for fun!

I voted for Nugget.

Our females were named Cleo, Nike (because she squeaked when she jumped), Sasha and Misha. Misha was a Russian Blue, which is why we chose that name. We named all the females.

Our males have been Milo, Andy and Bugsy. We named Milo because we found him on the street and we just liked the name. We adopted Andy and Bugsy, along with their names. Andy is a cutie-pie so it fits him perfectly. Bugsy has a round face, round ears and paws, big eyes and no tail. Bugsy fits him to a tee.

Hard to pick a wrong name for a cat!

So, the obligatory pics. Andy followed by Bugsy. The names fit.
