I guess I am asking a basic question that may have been asked before. But, I am new and asking for some basic guidance. I could spend all day on the site. I have both the time and interest, and unfortunately, need as well because I am very lonely. So what I am asking for is some perspective or guidance on the use for membership on the Forum.

I just keep it open in the background on my laptop and pop in when I have a moment. I have learned more from the awesome group of people here than I've ever learned "in real life conversation." When I have a few minutes break from work, or house stuff, I just check in to see what's going on. I really hope you'll enjoy your time here, @Wes !
 

I’m here for the company. It’s a lovely group of people who share their opinions about a variety of topics often using photos, links etc.
I’m also learning a lot about aging. Some folks here have some great ideas. Some people are lonely and enjoy the company.
I like it cause I’m accepted as I am; worts and all. I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
 
It's like Oz.

Most of it is friendly, colorful, loving, and supportive. But beware the witches and wizards. Some are incompetent humbugs, others capricious and likely to let you walk through Hell only to end up saying "Oh, you had the power to go home all long." And then there are the evil ones.

But it is mostly very nice.
 
The Senior Forum provides opportunities to connect with others, make new friends, and engage in meaningful conversations. When we are feeling isolated or don't get to socialize in person very much.

Also I am continuing to learn new stuff about everyday. I like engaging in new ideas and different perspectives. We can explore topics that interest us, hear from experienced people, and share our own experiences and knowledge.

Plus there is a lot of fun subjects to play with here.
 
As a senior now 7+ years into retirement, am often on my several computers for research, learning, current news, and more. As a career hi tech person, am also long time members to numbers of other Internet web sites, I don't and won't mention herein. For instance am a backpacker, landscape photographer, natural science enthusiast, technology enthusiast, and snow skier.

Spending long continuous periods looking at computer screens is mentally difficult, so instead break up those activities by posting briefly on boards like SF, and more. Like taking walks outdoors, eating meals, or watching tv. Since I have over decades been a recognized public person, my posting herein and elsewhere is also an increasing reservoir of my thinking and ideas that I can readily point others to that don't yet know or found reason to trust me.

In this exploding telecom era with a majority of people now carrying smartphones, that also means when meeting unfamiliar others in public, I can then point to say my Youtube account, where they see my face on that account is who they are looking at, and instantly have huge undeniable credibility. The majority of Internet users, especially those ordinary folks without accomplishment that rise to public levels, have yet to understand how truly powerful and paradigm changing that is for public persons. As a small Caucasian male in a world dominated by much physically stronger other aggressive males, my basic nature throughout my life has been to act unemotionally humble with balance, unthreateningly. And such has indeed served me well.

I lived in the city of Ventura, Oxnard, and Camarillo for a fairly short time. I really liked it there when these places had their own distinct characters. Today, it seems like L.A. Just one big city there. I move around a lot. I've lived in Venice, Culver City, Playa del Rey, and now Playa Vista. Am planning to move to a place called Mar Vista next month, into my parents' house I inherited. I had to get it repaired and up to modern, livable standards first.

I am not a real big fan of big cities. Prefer the feeling of small town. Wanted to live in nearby Santa Monica for that reason, but couldn't find a place to live there. I mostly live in rented rooms of people's homes. A lot less lonely that way. Now, I live alone and will when I go to Mar Vista. Not fun. One thing these places all have in common is they are all near the coast. Southern California is either coast or desert. I hate desert. But, love the warm weather. I used to hunt in the Mr. Pinos area. Don't hunt anymore.

I like SF because it makes me feel connected to others. One of my favorite threads is the one where we say what we did today. My mom used to ask how my day was, and then (after her death) to have gone years with no one wanting to know, it was kinda sad.

Even though I don't post on that thread daily, I still mentally post to it. All day long when I do things I add my little tasks to my mental list of what I did today. And it is really nice when I read that thread to know that other people are also spending their days doing laundry and hobbies, and some posters write so well it is like reading a continuing saga.

And its very rare that I post on the Teapot thread, but many many times when I'm at museums if anything looks like a teapot (usually turn out to be pitchers or coffee pots tho), I'm immediately alert to the possibility of finding a cool one. Gives a bit of a treasure hunt feel to being at museums.

Have you considered getting a roommate when you move? I have 2 of them and it is mostly a good thing.
 
I have tried other forums but, to be honest, I found them boring. I like the mix of people here and that we are spread across the World; it's interesting to hear about other people's experiences and how so many of us have such different lives.

I don't visit every day but, it's nice when I log in and can catch up on what everyone's been up to. :)
