Why have a bucket list and not act...

It's hard for me to understand why people would have a bucket list and not act on it, especially when time is racing. Why bother to mention in the first place. I get it when it is a matter of affordability. However, I feel if one do have a desire to do something...start small. For e.g. a bucket list don't have to be something extravagant. Travelling and to be able to travel outside of the US, is a gift. Why? It gives us different prospective of other people's life and culture.

For me, having the opportunity to travel the world (although there are still many places yet to discover), I have had the opportunity to self-reflect depending on the country I have visit or is visiting. Oh.., let's not forget about kindness. Travelling opens up the heart to receive as well as give. I hope this year 2024 more people would start address their bucket list.

I have been working on my bucket list since my kids grew up and I was 43. I have actually been to everywhere that was on it. I finished it last April.

I have been to Europe 6 times, 6 cruises, Thailand , most of the states and many national parks. Any vacations I take now are merely frosting on the cake.

Many people have lists they cannot accomplish because they can't afford to.
From 2022:
According to the most recent studies, in the United States:
  • More than 15 million older adults are economically insecure.
  • About 50% of seniors rely on Social Security for the majority of their income.
  • Over the next 10 years, the number of elderly Americans without homes could triple.
Nice chart on this site that shows Older Women are the poorest of the genders. Yay! Women win again! 😏

You are absolutely correct that some people can’t afford it. They are trying to keep a roof over their heads and pay for food and medicine. Some people don’t like to travel. It’s been a priority for me and is why I’m still driving a 16 year old car 😂.

I belong to another forum where the majority are well off and they go to Europe yearly for a few months. It’s really what you can afford and what you prioritize.

I understand you fully. I was addressing and asking "why have a bucket list" so I can understand...outside of affordability. I know many people who can afford to travel but yet still mention having a travel bucket list. That's all. I am not knocking anyone.

I didn’t think you were. I think some people are always putting things off for the future not realizing that health may make it impossible if they wait too long. Some people wait for retirement and they never make it. That’s what happened to my dad so I started traveling as soon as I could afford it.

Exactly! Tomorrow is never promise to anyone. Time don't care about us (lol). I say, just do it, whatever is in your heart, all within reason of course. One day, one can look back and tell a story to encourage others.

Good for you! Then I know for sureeeee you are an open-minded and conscience individual. Awesome!

I spent the greater part of my life not even knowing the term bucket list. Never had no bucket list, don't need no stinkin' bucket list. Being interested and taking advantage of opportunities does the job without any new age label.
Oh and by the way, welcome.
OhMyGosh! Yes, yes, yes!!! Love your response....Giving you a big fat tight hug on this answer. You go girl....

I'm a guy actually but thanks.
oh my! my sincere apologies. My daughter (grown now) name is Gabrielle and for whatever reason they call her Gabriel thinking she is a guy. So I understand. Well you go......dude. (smiling)

I have been to most every place I wished to go in the Continental North America.
No desire to go to the Over Seas Experience. Been Deep Sea fishing, a long day.
I'm mostly good, will do an occasional February in warm area. Basically I just like
to enjoy each day as it happens. If I go a great distance I miss my place sooner than
later. What can I add? Calm ?
