This Site Has 517 Guests at the Moment

There exist many Senior related forums online for people to pick and chose
from. Also, it is not uncommon for people to be a member of several forums.
Bashing of other sites though, I don't think is welcome here, unless I have missed
something. I am a member of several Senior sites, and including the one mentioned
that is closing end of next month. My times there have been enjoyable and the great
friends included that I will still stay in touch with..
I agree, but I'm not seeing any bashing going on, just giving a personal opinion from someone who was obviously a member. This is the only senior forum I have ever belonged to or spent time on, so I don't have much insight to others online. I think with any forum, we are all different, what may be pleasant to some, others may find uncomfortable. Just my opinion, of course. ;)

I'm not worried... I'm a member of Buzz50 myself, altho' I haven't posted for a few months but I've been a member for about 12 years ...I just don't want this Forum to be affected adversely by a huge influx...especially of the negative types , many of them have already been banned from other British forums
@Matrix moderates fairly, if there are a few trolls or troublemakers coming in, I'm sure their stay will be brief. I may be wrong, but I don't think because a forum closes every member would move to another single forum. If that board was more UK leaning, there's likely other forums that would fit some of those members better. Just guessing, I really don't know.

Oh no that's for sure, not every member would move to this forum there are other British forums available...however it has such a large membership that there is doubtless going to be some who come here (not all British by any means).. and having been a member of that forum I'm also well aware that some members there are people who have been already banned from the other British forums.. that's my only concern.. but we'll wait and see what transpires..

Getting back to the "guests" thing; I don't post all that often but I find it interesting to read what others have to say about subjects of interest to me. Sometimes I'm not logged on when I come here to read about what's going on. In that instance, I would be one of those guests. I'm probably not the only one who is in that situation from time to time.

I'm not one because I never log out of this forum even tho' I've not got the forum turned on I'm still logged in so If I look at the forum without posting , I wouldn't be classed as a guest.. instead I would be one of the members...however like many others I am incognito... so my name won't be flagged up as online..only Matrix can see that...

Bans are necessary at times, and it only takes one click to rid a forum of a disruptive or offensive member. Those who have been banned from other forums, usually continue down that road.

True, if I wasn't logged in for some reason, I would be listed as a guest.

yes I agree . They usually start off being nice enough but it doesn't take long for their true selves appear... you know that better than most having been our great moderator here for 9 years..

The forum stats have been very stable for a long time, no matter what happened, the number of logged-in members is always around 200~250.

Here is the daily logged-in stats since last July, a bit slow around Christmas as usual.

Thanks Matrix...at the end of Feb the big British based forum closes, so it will be interesting to see if there's any difference to the stats at the end of March

I don't think it would make much of a difference. It's hard to have serious conversations on a closing forum. Many have probably joined a new one, as we've seen some new faces here.

It's sad to see an active forum closing, but forums are a dying breed. All the forums I used to frequent have either closed down or turned into ghost towns. I, for one, closed SF's sister site - a pet forum.

I wonder why so many are closing..it's not like X ( formely twitter) or Facebook are new and people have gone there instead....any ideas on the reasons why ?

It costs money to run a forum, and it's a very time-consuming, thankless job. You encounter all sorts of folks—some act like your boss, insisting that you do what they want; some believe you should be grateful for their visits; others think you need their permission to moderate their posts, regardless of how inappropriate they may be. Additionally, some expect responses faster than their bank hotlines. Perhaps the better question is 'why not?'

yes I can see that's how it would get you...:(... I would definitely not want to be the owner of a forum, but I can assure you I'm very grateful that you are... this is simply the best forum on the internet by far..:giggle:

I was a member of Buzz50 for a number of years, but dropped out "several" years ago. Heavy handed mods would delete post just because they disagreed, and there were a small number of really obnoxious posters that dominated a lot of otherwise interesting threads.

lol - and to prove my point about the mods, i rejoined this morning and said on there basically what I said above, and guess what - post was deleted and membership erased. I'm crushed.

Is there any way that some of us can help lighten your load?

Why do you say..Forums are a dying breed ?? Why? JimB.

Exactly, and short videos. Nowadays, people have incredibly short attention spans, they have no time for a 5-min video, let alone writing forum posts, unless it's a problem that needs fixing. Some forums function more as Q&A websites than communities.

Nice to meet you too. :)
i hate short videos..I think they're under 30 seconds on youtube... there's no back story..no real substance...I have short videos blocked on my Youtube stream

I am a regular on youtube , shorts can get right to the point, you need some knowledge and editing skill to make them work ... you don't need to block them just don't click on them that's all you need to do ...

Watch this one ...
...it's brilliant and gets right to the point ....
