Have you thought of "your roots"?

PBS's "Finding Your Roots" made me think of all the people who did what they did, which somehow made me, me. My DNA comes from all over the world, I never knew people got around so much back then. Then two went behind the shed and a few 100 years later, there's me. Have you wondered about your roots? Ever do a family tree?

Went the 23andMe route (a gift from my brother). Being Asian, the roots always originate in China.

yes it's problematic for me to try and do a Family tree from here in England, but Scottish ancestry need me to attend in person to the genealogy site in Scotland for before or after certain dates. AFAIK it's the only ancestry site that does this.

I managed to find my great great grandparents on my mother side who were Irish and moved to Scotland during the great potato famine but then after that the dates are not available online

I really like the show and host. Yes, I've wondered if you think back and back and back, who were these people. They must go back thousands of years. But to find anyone. No, I don't care. Family hadn't been so great for me.

well me neither Remy as you know.. but I'd be really interested to know if my Ancestors were better people ...

We are huge fans of "Finding Your Roots!" They find so much interesting stuff! I've managed to find a LOT of family information online and had most of my family tree filled in. There was a whole branch that I could not manage to find and finally hired a genealogist for the last bit. She was worth every penny! She submitted 14 pages of story that I would never have found! My roots are pretty boring but who puts everything they own in 2 suitcases, gets on a huge ship with 6 children and sails into the sunset, knowing you are never coming back?? A brother-in-law even paid for the tickets so they must have been in dire straits.

I DID find out that both of my grandfather's (from NJ & Indiana) were of Frisian decent. One from the Dutch side and one from the German side. They pre-date the Vikings. Cool.

I'm proud of my roots, they'll always be a part of me. Doing my genealogy from age 12, I made some wonderful discoveries. Granted, I'm a mixed bag but it's a good mix.

I've made new roots with my husband and our family. I'm firmly planted now and my heart is home...

On my dad’s side a cousin did a ton of research. My grandma’s family was from Ireland and my tour included the area. My grandpa was from England and I haven’t been there yet. My mom was polish and German and I have been to both countries.

My brother researched part of our family but reached a dead end because one of our ancestors seemed to have arrived in Britain with incomplete documents

My cousin has apparently done quite a lot of info gathering about other relatives. However, as I have been out of touch with my cousins for more than thirty years, I'm unlikely to find out anything. Personally I have neither the time nor resources to do the work myself. So I remain, as my profile states, an "international man of mystery"

I'm of French Canadian descent. I had my DNA tested, I thought all my ancestors would come from some small French town. Nope I'm a mutt. . Somehow, I even have Southeast Asian in me. Apparently, none of my ancestors could say "no". And of course, in 1492, Columbus found the New World, and by 1530, I was part Mexican. I never dreamt people were so mobile back then ,or so randy.

My roots are shallow, not much going on here.
