I do believe I remember from a couple of months ago someone saying that Matrix will change it (but only once) if we need to. Wouldn't hurt to message and ask about that.

Yes, it's possible but I expect you'd have to get approval from Matrix. I know at least one member who changed their handle a year or so ago.

Actually, the board software allows unlimited changes to username. However, it's work for the board admins, and they'd like to minimize that. I"m on another board where people change all the time, like I've seen people change it 6 or more times, but that's down to the board admins and how much needless effort they want to put in.

Even if you can’t officially change what shows with your avatar, you can just tell people right here in this thread what you would like to be called, or known as. Some of us are called by a name different than our username, or some abbreviation of it, like people call me Yvonne, or sometimes HFL , so there is no reason you can’t do that, too.
Just tell us what you want to be called, @Aunt Mavis .
Also, you can change the wording that is just under your username, and put your preferred name there.
