New York City Early 1900's

Paladin1950

Still love 50's & 60's music!
I never get tired of watching these old street scenes. You find yourself watching people who have been dead, 50, 60, 70. years. In this film some have been dead for over a hundred years. Yet there they are alive again. In their youth or younger adult, going to work, shopping, going home, talking to friends on the street. Some don't know they are being filmed, others see the camera. But they would never suspect that over 100 years later, people would be watching them on film. I find myself amazed and think, "Look at all of these people. They are all alive again, and living one of their days again."

yes me too... I love to watch them.. when they're colourized they seem to make us realise just how short a time it was ago.. compared to when we look at sepia stills..

Outstanding !!! ... and I love the way you look at it.
Shorpy is a favorite site of mine and often I view with sadness, the youth, infant, adult and think none of them are alive now.
Sometimes there are pictures of hundreds and hundreds of people and I think ... none of them are alive now.
But I think you've changed the way I will look at such scenes. Thanks !!! :)

Notice how most of the men were wearing hats, and the majority were going about in dress jackets? It was a far dressier age. Women were likewise in long dresses; anything less would have been considered positively indecent. The people filmed would have considered today’s attire shocking! We are half-dressed, by their standards.

And yet, I am drawn to this earlier age and its slower pace, and think that I may have fit better into it than the present one. Thank you for allowing us this bit of time-travel…
