Have you forgotten to scan an item from your trolley?

Perusing the trolley I espied 2 avocados I purchased from the grocer across the way.
The checkout spy in the sky also espied the two avocadoes.
I could not proceed until I notified the checkout assistant.
I gave a courteous wave to the camera. 🧌

Only once... I'd missed a tiny packet in the trolley ( this was in the days before self scanning) and didn't see it until I got all the way across the car park to the car... no door alarms went off

yet I can walk out with all my shopping paid for and the alarm will go off and the security has to check my receipt...

I went to the store to buy razor blades @ $40+. I got some other stuff. It was Halloween and everybody and his mother were buying candy- a long, long line at the check out. When I got to the checkout, I put the other things down, but kept the razor blades in my hand. Why ???? To pay for it, I'm shifting the blades from one hand to another. Anyway, I walked out with them. in my hand I only noticed them when I was sitting in the car. Nope, never did pay for them.

Honest people still exist.

I don't think I have.

Sometimes in the summer if I stop at two places, I'll bring my homemade cotton bag in the store with the items because I don't want to leave them in the car. But they are in the bag. If I go through an employee check out I'll let them know that bag is from someplace else.

It's getting more common for people to use their reusable shopping bag as their own basket when shopping and I do it also. I've wondered if I'll ever be asked to have my bag checked.

In Spain when we first moved there, the Biggest Supermarket chain of all at the time and the most expensive was Carrefour.. they wouldn't allow anyone into the store with a bag. It was taken from us at the entrance, except for our purse/wallet.. and wrapped in shrink wrap and put into a locker which we had to collect on the way out. If we refused to hand it over we weren't allowed in store..

What a time consuming exercise it was, but they were having huge problems with theft.. especially from tourists...

they don't do it now...

@hollydolly That would have drove me nuts. Crazy people do that as tourists especially. Last thing I'd want is an arrest in a foreign country.

The Salvation Army thrift store here is about the only place that doesn't let people in with backpacks or large bags. I don't shop there much as their prices are too high. Go on occasion on Wednesday when it's 25% off for seniors.

Yes I have walked out with a box of cereal once and once a jar of mayo. I made the trek back and paid for them. Same with a jug of kitty litter also a new litter box, it was on the rack under my cart. I walked out with two 40 pound bags of conditioner salt years ago. The cashier forgot to ring them up. I just threw them in the car and went home. Same with a package of paper towels. I was tired and didn't feel like walking back to the store. I now try to keep my items organized and haven't overlooked anything lately.

Yep... I filled a salad container from a supermarket's fresh salad bar and sat it on the "seat" part of the cart with my purse. Only then I took my jacket off and laid it over the salad... paid for my groceries and didn't even know it until I was at the car loading the groceries and put my jacket back on... there was my salad. Had to go back in and stand in line again but if I hadn't, I'd probably still feel guilty about it all these years later. 😊

lol..that's my problem...guilt ...:D

I still maintain the best place to murder someone is the Grocery Store.

You just place the body on the bottom rung of your shopping cart...whistle while you go through the cash...out to the parking lot and into the trunk of your car!

And even if someone does catch you, it's not like they're going to yell out, "Hey! You forgot to ring in the dead guy!"

not only are we Brits not allowed to carry guns to kill anyone...we can't even run hit them over the head in a supermarket and put them in the bottom tray..because we don't have a bottom layer to our trolleys...

Yep, got to the car and spotted it, so I went back to Kmart and explained to the greeter what happened.
Then went to the scanning machine, scanned and paid for the thing, that back to the car.
What a pain in the butt.
I once noticed something in my trolley that had missed the scan after I had paid for the groceries. In a hurry, I just handed it to a staff member and left it behind. I think she thought I was crazy.

I was shopping in Coles the other day. I like to buy some Chia seeds, so I went to the self-weigh in as I only needed a scoop full. I mistakenly took 2 plastic bags so put them in the trolley. At the checkout I scanned the Chia seeds and put the other plastic bag in the trolley. Well, the Red Light went on and the attendant came running over. I said I only put an empty plastic bag in the trolley. She did her little security check and allowed me to continue. Gees, those cameras can pick up everything. She even showed me a replay of me putting the plastic bag in the trolley.!!!

Yes, the spy in the sky is permeating all over.

I can't remember which store, but one I was in lately had a sign that asked people specifically not to use their reusable bags to shop with as I suppose they're concerned that thieves will conceal unpaid merchandise inside.

that's not happened here, because of course we're encouraged to use disposable bags... however Aldi has recently implemented a search bag policy at the till in some of their stores... it's got mixed reviews. Some people are furious about it.. others like me couldn't care less..

I went to Catholic school, and we had to do this Palmer penmanship paper with an ink pen.( no ballpoint) When I was about 10, I was always loosing my pen. My mom just bought me a new pen, which I lost. So I went down to an old time store- McCoury's. I tried to steal a pen. It was winter and my jacket had elastic in the sleeve ends. I couldn't shove the pen up the sleeve. I stood there for about five minutes trying. Then as I was walking out, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I was cool and calm under pressure, I started screaming, " I didn't steal the pen. I didn't steal the pen".:(
I got banned from the store, and got hell for loosing another pen.

I'm like you, I wouldn't get worked up about it either. I sympathize with any business that has to deal with constant theft. But that reminds me of a funny story which I didn't find all that amusing at the time.

On our one trip to Hawaii, we'd gone into a souvenir store to just browse and as I was walking out, my purse set off the alarm. Well of course I had to go back to the counter and had to empty my entire purse contents onto the counter to prove I hadn't put anything in there. Meanwhile, my husband who fancied himself quite the comedian, was standing there watching me and saying loudly, 'I told you not to put anything in there'....which I would NEVER do by the way.

Finally went through everything and discovered that it was an old, half empty tube of sun tan lotion that I'd bought at some point in Vancouver years (?) before we even thought of going to Hawaii. Imagine that! Same code on the strip! Like I said, funny story now, but then....very embarrassing.

A couple of months ago I must have scanned something twice. I looked at my receipt when I got home and saw $3.17 for grapes twice on the receipt, one right after the other.

I saved the receipt and went to customer service the next time I went in and they refunded me, no hassle.

Last time I was in Walmart, I bought 32 twenty cent craft items on sale and I was expecting to be questioned at some point. That's a common scam people are doing at the self-check. They'll glue a 69 cent UPC code sticker on their finger and use that while blocking the the real UPC codes.

The registers are supposed to notify a clerk when a large number of the same low prices show up. Apparently that didn't happen this time.
