I wonder how different people really are from each other?

Many of our differences stem from habits and traits. Habits come about from repeating actions that are pleasurable to us, smoking, alcoholism or biting nails. Traits seem to be hardwired through our ancestors and DNA.

Besides the two mentioned above, I wonder how much any of us are alike?

We are more alike than different.
We all need oxygen to breathe
We all bleed red blood 🩸
We all have families
We all require food to live
We all laugh
We all cry
We all get mad sometimes
We all like music ( just different kinds )
We all like to be treated nicely

There are thousands of things to list

Slight differences in genetics, in the way in which our DNA is arranged, but basically the same. We may have vast differences in life experiences, but we are all the same thing - homosapien - and we all pretty much want and need the same things. If we really did all treat each other nicely, as we would also like to be treated ourselves, we then, i think, would realize that we are the same, of the same family and in the same boat, and this world would be a much better place to live in.

It seems this thread has created space for a little reflection and introspection. But what if we really are the same, thinking and perceiving differently because of our physical and mental differences, but the same spirit, the same I Am That I Am.
But I do agree, to each his own is wonderful. And whatever the case may be, Life is absolutely amazing.

I doubt any here share my traits of competitive shooting and also I take others fishing weekly. These 2 I am very serious about especially shooting matches.
But isnt that the point - that people can have different habits, pastimes etc and different cultural or life experience backgrounds but all people of all races or countries or cultures share the same basic human traits and needs and are more alike than different.

We are all of the same species, and therefore share a good deal of requirements. Shelter, food, water, etc.

At the same time we have a couple other things that help to create differences between us:

1. Genetics
We're a mix of our mothers and fathers. We share most of our genes with them, but at the time some variation. Those variations control minor differences such the color of our hair and eyes, to major ones when it comes to birth defects etc. The process of evolution ensures these variations continue on, and will always be there.

2. Society
As a species, we've laid claim to the land on Planet Earth. This land is broken up into Continents, and then Countries. Countries are further broken down into States, Counties, neighborhoods, etc. In order to keep a form of equilibrium, we have written a standard way we should act, and what personal responsibility means within our society. We internalize this, and it becomes our culture. Once internalized, it can be more difficult to change than most attributes. We're tribal, and we don't like to be cast out.

Countries have their own cultures, and their people will have their own ideas. Some are similar, such as the US and the UK, while others are very different. From the consequences of actions (such as theft, which can get you anything from a fine in one place, and death in another), to religions, etc. Our culture becomes, largely, who we are.

3. Upbringing
And then there is the fine tuning of our upbringing. We come into this world not as sinners, but as, essentially, clean slates. We can be loved and nurtured and brought up to show respect, kindness, and empathy, or we can be brought up to be mercenaries and killers. Our brains, and our temperament, and our idea of acceptable behavior is largely learned as we grow. We can be elevated through life by our upbringing, or cursed with chains and pain.

I could go on, but as usual, I'm wordy. I think the answer is, we're more the same than different, but the devil is in the details. :D

Yes I believe we are ALL connected to the ‘I AM that I AM.’ We just see ourselves as separate due to the fact that we have a body which is what most religions teach.

We might want to imagine that we are all the same with the same idea of "I am that I am", but we can never know for sure. To insist that we are all the same can be dangerous, not uniting. Leaders who don't allow for individual beliefs and customs that are outside what the leader/s envision as the same, become a threat to the society. The strongest example being North Korea. The making of one shoe to fit all has been tried thousands of times to organize a society around. It is an endless exercise to promote the unity principle. I am inclined to promote a diversity outlook. That people a different and should have that freedom as long as they are not harming anyone.

I am not trying to be argumentative, as many have accused me of lately, simply I really think the diversity with freedom and responsibility works better for creating a society that experiences well being.

You are speaking about human ego not human spirit. Human ego sees us ALL as separate.

Under a high powered microscope, there is no separation. We are all apart of dancing molecules.

Fundamentally, I believe we are much more like each other than different from one another. This used to be more clear in the years when I was growing up but has fallen out of favor as people have become more divisive for various reasons. For myself I'd like to continue focusing on all that brings me closer to others.

It varies

Some are 9 gauge single strand wire
Some are fiber optic
Some are power lines
Some are just plain old ground wire

We've learned we need them all
oooh I dunno Gary...I can think of quite a few of which humanity can do just fine without..in fact probably better, without..
