Any recommendations for a long weekend?

Any input is welcome. We are looking to get away for a long weekend in late May. (Not Memorial Day weekend.)

We're considering visiting Las Vegas to see a couple of Cirque shows, watch the movie at The Sphere and visit the Red Rocks. Our other possible destination is Colorado to visit Denver and Colorado Springs. We've also heard Broken Bow in Arkansas is beautiful.

Any other recommendations? We really need to get away from the everyday hum-drum.
 

Given where we live, I would suggest the Hill country of Texas. You will the bluebonnets blooming but is a very beautiful area. Take a look at Canyon Lake area for BNBs or rentals on the lake. The lake is a brilliant emerald green, places we stayed had deer come right up on the property morning and evening.

You also would not be far from Austin or San Antonio if you want to day trip out.
I am a big fan of San Antonio. Fiesta there is such an experience there but that is probably scheduled in April.

Thank you! We visited San Antonio last year in May to see a concert there. We went to Riverwalk and really enjoyed it, but it was about a day's worth of entertainment. I would still like to visit the Hill Country, so we will check it out.

Monterey in late May. Craggy coastline views, a world-famous aquarium and a superb farm-to-table dining scene. Though temperatures here remain in the 60s for most of the year, rainfall drops significantly in May. Popular festivals also make this a great time of the year to visit. Second suggestion is Scottsdale AZ. Lot of good food. lots of golf, if you play and road trips to Tucson are easy. Loved a little place in Fountain Hills. A beautiful park to walk and many little places to have a nice light lunch.

Our favorites were Chompies, Uncle Sams for pizza and Ajo Als for mexican food. These were close to us when we were out there for cancer clinical trials. Old town , Scottsdale is fun for shopping. The traffic out there is easy and the highways are easy to negotiate. Just sitting by poolside at the hotels are very relaxing. There was a place right next to our hotel called I think the Village Inn that I could walk over to and get food, for breakfast or lunch if the hubs was not up to going out. Kind of like a an IHOP, nothing special but the food was good and a budget friendly place.

I was going to suggest Monument Valley but you have to do a bit of walking to see the petroglyphs and pictographs, and they're the best part imo.

How's the snow and the driving in Colorado? I'd go there myself if I could. And, if you like dinosaurs, you could stop at Dinosaur National Monument at the border of Utah and Colorado. There's over 1,500 fossils on display there, and I think there's an active dig going on. Plus it's beautiful, if you like otherworldly landscapes.

We will take that into consideration. We love walking and hiking.

There shouldn't be snow in Colorado in May, although one never knows these days. We have a couple of friends who love Colorado and are considering moving there. They are a very outdoorsy couple. They rented a Vrbo there during the month of January and loved it. We need to catch up with them to see if they have any recommendations.

Thanks! It has been a long time but we drove the Pacific Coast from Los Angeles to San Francisco. We stayed in Doris Day's hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea. It was charming and had a guest book with pictures of guests' pets. We actually saw her briefly get out of a car and go into the hotel. The town was charming as well.

I attended a golf/spa conference several years ago in Monterey, and yes, it is beautiful. Perhaps it's time to go back.

Thank you! Yes, Scottsdale is beautiful. For charming Desert communities we also love Santa Fe.
 
I believe Broken Bow is in Oklahoma. When I was there back in the 80 s I didn't see the area as a garden spot. It all may have changed since then.

Good idea.

Me and the kids lived in Colorado for a few years, but in Grand Junction, on the "western slope". Winters brought only a couple feet of snow, usually. It was awesome.
