Europeans Share "Hard Truths" About We Americans

Americans get all bent out of shape over the abortion issue.
Should we not be passionate over issues that concern us ?

Some in this country are very religious , and stand against abortion, while others are more liberal minded and less religious and have no issue with it .

My opinion doesn't matter so I'll abstain from voicing it.

Did this bit of nastiness slip through the cracks? Europe did not "send" their - what? Their worst? The European immigrants who were lucky enough to arrive here were mostly escaping from horrors, violence, poverty, and unspeakable atrocities.

And "what we are getting from down south?" Really? Desperate immigrants who love this country and only want to come here to work?

Whoever or whatever you are oldaunt, you should be ashamed.

"And "what we are getting from down south?" Really? Desperate immigrants who love this country and only want to come here to work?"

Really ? ... then why do they swim across the river & jump the fence to get in ? As opposed to knocking on the door and applying for citizenship correctly ?

And how can they love this country if they have never been here before ?

IMO, a good portion of them only come here to game the system, and get what they can from it ...... free.

An obsession with immigration is a sad reality of today.

Of course, it's a distraction from what really matters, but hey, if it works it works.

The Americans defeated the British Army at Saratoga in October 1777. Having lost America the Brits turned to Australia. The first settlement, at Sydney, consisted of about 850 convicts and their Marine guards and officers, led by Governor Arthur Phillip. They arrived at Botany Bay in the "First Fleet" of 9 transport ships accompanied by 2 small warships, in January, 1788.

850 convicts, you would be forgiven for thinking that Australia was about to become the gun culture of the southern hemisphere. Far from it, firearm homicide rates in the US are 33 times greater than in Australia. So much for Europe not sending their best.
Let's put those numbers in context...how many people are in Australia vs. the USA? How many homicides per 100,000 people in the USA vs. Australia...?

No one can "knock on the door and apply for US Citizenship ". The actual process is lengthy, and full of delays, to the point that in many cases the time required to actually become a US citizen can be up to TEN YEARS LONG. FIRST the potential immigrant must apply and be approved for admission into the USA, based on their education standing, past employment history, financial situation and what skills they bring to the USA.

Once in the country, the LEGAL immigrant has to be fully self supporting, and find a job, a place to live and establish themselves in your country. Being a Green Card holder is the first step on the path towards eventually becoming a US citizen ( if they choose to do so ). It is perfectly legal for a person to live and work in the USA as a permanent resident, for decades, if they choose to do so.

Please understand the difference between a LEGAL immigrant, and an ILLEGAL migrant. The first person has followed all the rules, met all the requirements, and they are in the USA to make a living and improve the future life of their kids. Unless you are the descendant of American Aboriginal people, somebody in YOUR FAMILY was an immigrant in the past, too. Never forget that fact. JimB.

I know all this ............ plus the "Knock on the door comment" was just a figure of speech . And yes my family was way, way back immigrants as well. But they followed the law in place at that time. Todays immigrants should IMO do the same. If it takes ten years ... then it takes ten years. They can become educated etc, and live a decent life during that ten years.

You’d shoot someone for stealing your car?
In 2015, two illegal immigrants shot and killed my wonderful brother while attempting to steal his vehicle. They got his vehicle, took it for a joy ride then abandoned it. They stole a life, a loss from which I will never recover. I have a lot of thoughts about these topics, none of which I'll go into detail here but you might be able to discern what they are.

I’m sorry for your loss.

That's your personal opinion but not a statement on the success of the Beatles. If they have sold 600 million records, as Holly wrote, they were very successful.

I never said or indicated that it was a statement of their success. It was meant to be just an opinion. And a hint to my shock that they were successful due to their horrible music.

Leann, I'm very sad that you & your family ever had to experience such a loss.

Are there corresponding articles about Americans sharing "hard truths" about another country? What country would they even pick?
...

Yes there are.
Quite often on Facebook I see similar articles about Americans rubbishing Australia (that's because I am in Australia, British people probably get the ones rubbishing Britain)
There are some things I agree with on the list - it is deliberately worded aggressively but if you consider it just on facts.

Tell me, you have bands bigger than the Beatles ?.. ...the Beatles sold 600 million records.... I needn't even go further than that to prove you wrong...end of story!
Okay you guys @Paco Dennis Here's the stats on biggest selling bands/artists from Wikipedia. Keep scrolling down past the sets of thumbnail photos. I'm surprised at some of the totals. I thought some of the artists sold more records than they did.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists
But let me add my spin. Just because they sold more records, doesn't mean they are the best. Everyone has their own ideas of great music. I think some of the artists here are overrated and some of the bands and artists I consider able to out sing and out play those mentioned are not listed. Also, @Devi is absolutely correct when she referenced bands from the UK being influenced by Black music/musicians from the United States. I know the Beatles and Rolling Stones were.
