What would you say is the most reliable and cost efficient apparatus in your home?

most reliable and cost efficient

Pour-over coffee maker.
Place on cup .. install filter ... put coffee in filter ... add hot water.
Works every time for hot fresh coffee, with no moving parts and nothing to wear out.

BONUS: My Whirlpool washer and dryer are 18yrs old and going strong.
Only appliance I've had to replace in 18yrs is the frig.

I have an old refrigerator in my garage full of Rainier Beer for Aunt Mavis. She likes her free beer ice cold.

The most cost efficient I would say...is the Airfryer....

The most reliable AND cost efficient has been my Panasonic Plasma TV which we got in 2012.. so it's 12 years old this year.. and is in perfect working condition.. never had a seconds' problem with it.. and it has energy saving mode so after 2 hours of inactivity it goes into Sleep mode..

the other thing which I've mentioned on here many times, is my Toshiba Laptop... it's still working after 17 years.. it's as slow as a tortoise but it still accepts updates... there's no deterioration in the picture at all... these photos were taken just last week..

I certainly got my moneys' worth with both of these things.....but I think it's because I do a LOAD of research before buying high end items, and then I really look after them..

It's a Frigidaire with top freezer. Basic white. Made in Mexico (I know, we were a little hesitant to buy when we learned that), but it has been a strong workhouse. I don't want to jinx it, haha.

Thanks @palides2021 !!! ... There was a time when I was growing up that all the "old folks" referred to every refrigerator regardless of make or model, as a Frigidaire :ROFLMAO:

When I bought my house in 2006, it had a Frigidaire that was bought brand new in 2005. That Frigidaire lasted until Valentines day 2018. I replaced it with ... a Frigidaire. The Frigidaire I have now is set to almost the coldest setting in the refrigerator compartment. Like yours, it has a top freezer. I have a thermometer in the refrigerator and keep it so the temp is maintained between about 32-37 as it cycles. Since I now have it near the coldest setting, I'm beginning to wonder if this Frigidaire will last even as long as the last Frigidaire.

With Frigidaire, maybe it's luck of the draw or maybe some models are better than others. Dunno

A man I know that has worked on appliances for decades told me that while no current appliance is as well made as they once were, he recommended Amana refrigerators. It's hard to find Amana around here and besides, they are a couple hundred more than Frigidaire. But when it's time to replace this Frigidaire, I'll bite the bullet and give Amana a shot.

When we moved into our prefab ( manufactured house built to replace the bombed out houses during WW2).. when I was a kid, the fridge and ice box were built in .. and they were Frigidaire.

I haven't seen a frigidair Fridge in the rest of my 60 years... apparently now they're owned by Electrolux...

Yes, you are right. Inside my Frigidaire refrigerator, it does say Electrolux.

I find it interesting about the size of some of the appliances in the UK. Some of the fridges here are big enough to hang a dressed out beef in. Now I am not sure about freezers. Here we also have very large chest freezers here. We had one of those growing up. There were four kids in the family and we did buy a half cow, chickens and pork from ranchers back in the day. We also froze a lot of veggie and fruit that was grown in our garden.

I have been watching a show on Amazon prime called Nightmare Tenants, Slum Landlords. So I have been very interested in the housing in the UK, showing appliances, living spaces etc. One thing I have never seen here is the kitchen sink with the stainless steel draining area on one side. I would love to have that.

It has really opened my eyes to the housing problems in your country. I know we have it as well but I have never scene those conditions on a documentary in the US. I also was surprised to see the number of illegal immigrants you have.
We have that problem but I can see how they come across the border here.

The UK being an island, how do these immigrants make their way to the UK. You seem to have many from eastern Europe, Africa and the Asian countries. They must put a real financial problem on your government. The citizens of your country are really suffering with much worse inflation in all areas. The demand for decent affordable housing is heartbreaking. Sorry, I did not mean to take your thread but my eyes have been opened to so much I did not understand.

Maybe you could start another thread, open to all our UK members to share the true horror your people are being subjected to. In my mind I always romanticised England as a beautiful place. I really never got the shear number of people and suffering.

**SORRY, NOT @holly'S THREAD, I NEED A NAP!
