Power Out For a While

When I got home from delivering meals, I had an unpleasant surprise - the electricity was out. My garage door wouldn't go up. Good thing I leave a door unlocked for such an emergency. It should have tipped me off when I saw a power company truck up on the corner. I unloaded the car of groceries and got them in the fridge (even if it wasn't working). According to the clock, the power went off around 11:30 am. They were able to restore power around 12:30 pm, but my TV cable box isn't working. I tried unplugging it and pressing the power button, but nothing could get it to come back on. There's power to it, just like it's burnt out. Fortunately I have internet and phone. Expecting a technician later this PM.

Tech just left. He said I had two separate problems, one was a bad outdoor cable and the other was a bad cable box. All taken care of, but the cable company has to send a crew out to bury the new cable. He couldn't say when that would be since their backlogged from winter jobs.

The power would go out every so often in our area when I was a little boy.

Dad would huddle me and Mom and my 4 siblings around the fireplace. We'd sing songs, play word games...charades by candlelight. Yep. I have fond memories of these outages when I was young. It was like going camping in your own part of the house! :)

Great story. Life was simpler then; a lot less electronics. About the only thing that works when the power is out is the toilet.
