Do you remember your favourite dessert/sweet treat as a child?

My mom's rice pudding. She'd make it for the holidays.
And, this jello concoction w/jello, cream cheese, and walnuts..all mixed together. It was strawberry jello/frozen strawberries and you had to let it set and whip it up somehow.

I've tried to make it in the past, but just can't get it.

Bisquick cake w/coconut topping.

My grandma made the best apple and cherry pies known to mankind. She felt that if a recipe (not that she used recipes....) called for one cup of sugar, two cups were better. She made the best pie crust ever. Thick and lardy and sweet.

And her chocolate cakes...... Oh, her chocolate cakes...... I can hear the angels singing.

It's a wonder we weren't all diabetic.

I was raised by my grandparents, I remember grandma making pie crusts, but for the life of me I don't remember the pie filling. What I do remember was every month or two she would bring home a quart bottle of coke and there would be a glass each for the 4 of us, grandma, grandpa , my young uncle and me. That was always a treat. As soon as I could read well I was allowed to bake, cookies mostly, I enjoyed it and so did everyone else.

We only got it at Christmas time also.
Maybe that’s part of the reason it was so special. First my mom baked cake to go inside, then made the jello, let it set. Then the custard, let it set, then made the whipped cream. Superb!
We all loved a wine trifle- but only got it at Christmas time.
Trifle was a regular thing in our household.
At least once every 2 weeks. 😋

Apple pie (or any seasonal fruit) with custard
Rice pudding done for hours in the oven (skin on the top was dad's and dad's alone 😀)
Suet puddings and custard
Victoria sponge cake with jam and cream
Bird's Instant Whip
Tinned fruit with cream

I don't remember having a favourite but, I do remember seeing my friend's mum buying a box of meringues, big, white, puffy things. I imagined that they would be delicious. I pointed them out to mum and she bought me one, I bit into it and .... nothing! It was like eating a slightly eggy, sweet nothing! I was very disappointed :(

When I was very young and out shopping with my grandparents we ate at a Woolworths and they let me get a strawberry shortcake. My gosh it was the most incredible thing I ever had, shortcake, ice cream, strawberries, and whipped cream. To this day that is my dessert of choice. Now I want one!

Oh, sometimes that just happens. Sorry that happened to you.

I remember shopping at Woolworths Store, but I never knew they had served shortcake, ice cream, strawberries, and whipped cream. That does sound quite heavenly!

Apple Crispy for the win! :)
The great thing about Apple Crisp and Peach Cobbler is they demand a big scoop of ice cream on top so you're really getting two desserts at once.

My mother was a great cook and baker. we'd come home from school and have whatever she had just made. Cherry pie, blonde brownies, oatmeal molasses cookies, chocolate cake with caramel icing...

My very favorite was Graham Cracker Pie.
