Anyone Subscribe To Apple TV?

I just took advantage of the one month free trial curtesy of Roku. My son said he didn't realize we didn't need an Apple device. I didn't either until I started seeing the channel advertised on Roku. I expect I'll keep it at least a couple months after the trial ends because I saw a few shows and movies I'm interested in. Right now I'm sort of binge watching Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.




A friend of mine loves Apple TV but we generally have different tastes. Do you or have you had it? If so what do (did) you watch?

I never have just because I have a very irrational dislike for Apple products but I do know that there are some very good shows on Apple TV. Looking forward to what you think since we seem to share the same tastes in TV shows. I might actually bite the bullet and subscribe for a month ...lol.
 
Never had it, don't plan to. But it would be interesting to hear what you think of their programming.
 

I can’t figure AppleTv out. i would like to synch downloaded movies into AppleTv to watch on my Samsung smarttv, however it doesn’t store personal movie files in its data base. Any suggestions?

I kinda think your dislike for Apple is rational. You are not by yourself. My last hold out with them was my Mac. After the "upgrade" that became computer hell, I finally gave up and got a PC, something I never thought I'd do again. Years ago, I was fed up with the iPhone. It was a time when you could change batteries for Android phones but not for iPhones. I was coming home from a trip and my iPhone battery died at a most inopportune time.

My grandson, a friend of mine and I (in separate conversations) have talked about how we don't like the exclusivity of Apple products and how their upgrades seem to be more like downgrades. I'm sure once I'm finished with Monarch, I'll be exploring more of what Apple TV has to offer. So far shows I will check out are Sugar, a detective show starring Colin Farrell, Ted Lasso because I've heard so much about it. My movie short list so far contains The Amazing Spiderman and Argyle. I'll let you know what else I come up with Mark.
 
I just looked at it. Apparently you don't need Roku to get the free trial, I could start watching it on my computer right now. Only nothing looked good to me except maybe, "Killers of the Flower Moon." I've read the book and loved it but not rented the movie because I could see they've made the male characters the stars and the true story is really all about the women and how some of them managed to survive the murderous and evil men.

I've had the free trial month from several streaming services and I've usually watched everything I'm interested in by the time the month is up. I pay for one month of Netflix about once a year in order to binge the latest season of The Crown and a few other things.
 
I know there is a show on Apple TV that received great reviews. It's an alternative/history type of show and the plot is that the Russians were the first to land on the moon. It's called For All Mankind. That one does have my interest.
 
I've been shocked at how lame Netflix is, and I expect as little for the rest of the overpriced streaming services. Amazon Prime used to be fantastic, but it has really fallen down in recent years.

I'm not sure that it makes sense for one company to have both production and consumer distribution under their roof. Too many walled gardens resulting excessively high costs per household. Quality also seems to suffer, probably due to inbreeding and pressure to just crank stuff out. Surely business regulations exist to prevent this sort of thing?

Not that I can be much help but do you mean movies you downloaded from another platform other than Apple TV? I don't know of any TV streaming platform that stores personal movie files. Does you Smart TV support the Apple TV app?

From what I saw on the Apple TV website, yes you get a free trial but it's only for 7 days.

I haven't used it in years so you would know better then. When Roku first came out I had a lot of movies on my hard drive and Plex worked great then but things have changed in the past 12 or so years.

Oh yeah, it was more recent that 12 years, probably about 7 years ago. I think they did some kind of upgrade or revision and you know what happens sometimes when companies call themselves making improvements. So often they make things worse.
 
When there’s something I want to watch on Apple TV, I wait until it and other shows are complete and then I subscribe for one month. Cancel a couple of days prior to the automatic renewal.

No I don't pay for it as an extra..it's part of my Internet/Tv/Phone package
 
I signed up for a 3-month free trial and decided to keep it. For a while I was really hooked on both The Morning Show and Servant, but lost interest after the first season of both. Still really enjoying Ted Lasso and Slow Horses; trying to make up my mind about Monarch (I'm a big Kurt Russell fan, wish he were in more of its episodes).

Sometimes Costco (big U.S. discount membership warehouse) offers it at a reduced rate if you sign up for at least a year; I'm going to watch for that and probably take advantage of it if it ever gets offered again.
