Your Idea of a Dream Escape

I know I'm not in the right place, but this is a photo of us on our honeymoon, 1966., he was 36 and I was 22. They said it wouldn't last. We eloped so we never had a decent place to holiday to. We had the most romantic place to stay in near Bondi Beach, Sydney. I certainly had no regrets by
not having a "Special Wedding" we were free, almost like hippies and it lasted 45 years until my husband took ill and passed away. He left me with beautiful memories and two of the most decent sons to see me through.

The most beautiful dream escapes we ever had were in the South Pacific: 1996 to Tahiti and Morea; 1997 to Fiji and New Zealand; 2013 to Rarotonga Island and Aitutaki Atoll; and in 2016 to Tahiti and Bora Bora. It's 8 flying hours from Los Angeles to Tahiti, and another two to Bora Bora where we stayed at an over-water bungalow with a window on the floor where we could watch fish at night with a floodlight. Here are a few pictures from our last trip. (And from Los Angeles to Hawaii 5 hours, Tokyo 10 hours, Hong Kong or Sydney 14 flying hours non-stop. To Germany it's 12 hours.)

Lilac, you won't believe it, but I was born in Bamberg, I'm living only four miles away and have been at the "Kachelofen" (tile stove) Restaurant several times. The "Schlenkerla Rauchbier" (smoke beer) is delicious.
Schlenkerla Smokebeer - THE original smoked beer. From the UNESCO world heritage city Bamberg.
Bamberg was our first stop when we went to Germany! We stayed in the Old Town for a week & took the train for two days to see Nurnburg. Altenburg Castle was beautiful. There was an art gallery that had prints where I bought one of Altenburg Castle, the Old Town Hall & of the Old Town. It will be my favorite place.

The food at the Kachelofen was so good. My husband still talks about the wild boar. We can get Rauchbier here in bottles, but the 5L can shaped like a barrel is the closest to vom Fass.

We want to get back to Germany & Bamberg is diffently a must for us.

This is wonderful. My wife and I would be pleased to meet you and your husband.

oscash, you were and probably still are stunningly beautiful... what a good looking couple you 2 were....

The Sierra Nevada and the state has many such aesthetic landscapes. A key reason I chose to live here in the SFBA within modest driving range. As a long time landscape and nature photographer, now as a senior with more free time than ever, don't need to dream about them, just make plans, at the right time of year, and do it. Our American West has many such World Class places.

Well, I have never lived in a self contained home. When I was growing up, my parents did own our home, but it was a duplex, we had tenants on the level above. It was a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom on the main floor with a finished basement. It was very nice, but I just wanted to live in a pretty self contained home like my friends did. My friends lived in bungalows. And now I live in a condo, which we own, but again I would loved to have our own house with a little garden in the country somewhere, with amenities nearby. Something like the picture attached, more or less.
