My attitude has been kind of off kilter lately,

Thanks for this warrigal....the business of mobility is a big issue for me, I cannot stand on my feet for more than about 15 mins, so cannot get outside at all anymore....I do use a cane but that does not really help much, I'm debating getting a wheel walker with seat for in the house here....but boy this is'
a small house for one I think...I do use mental stuff to keep me out of deep depresseion....mostly stuff I learned in alcoholics anonymouse, this year marks 42 yrs sober, so I
am certainly thankful for that...I seem to be lacking in motivation lately, and got to get that attitude back!!! take care....
I too went to AA and found help. I'm open to a private conversation anytime you would like to talk.

Well when my wife passed I cheked out those sorta senior places....and I cannot get inthem due to my
income,,,,,just a tad to high for some, way to damn
low for the rest....so here I stay LOL.....I am just in
a depression time and need to get over it......
What? My parents made great money. My mom was an accountant and my dad an engineer. When you call for assisted living at your home, they will give you info to help you
find some place suitable. You don’t even have to give up your home if you don’t want. Please look into this.

pEppermint, I definitly do NOT eat correctly....candy, cookies, tv dinners can of soup....that's how I roll...eggs with either sausage or bacon, cereal once a week....top chef LOLOL....
That's no good, Hawkie. You really need to improve your diet for your body to feel better. Please see if you can have a nutritionist come to see you.

Cooking can be very creative and even fun. Please try. Sending hugs.

There are some senior apartments, though, while not providing your meals or transportation, would provide social contact and some do have activities.
That is how my apartment is. But some people have aides come in to assist them. You are independent, just like renting an apartment in any other building. It does go by income but if you have medical expenses they discount that from the rent I think.

There is a rollator walker with 4 wheels or one that is 3 wheels, which is narrow and would work in almost any home. Even the 4 wheel rollators should be good in a home. Have you thought about getting meals on wheels to deliver a hot meal to you a few days a week? You won't have to do a thing...it's delivered hot and ready to eat. Cost is usually under $3 per meal. Maybe you can think about trying it out.

Sadly you can't change how old you are but you can change your eating habits and I know that you have the courage to do that. I know it is easier said than done but you faced a much tougher challenge before and overcame that :)

Others here have offered some great advice and I hope you take that into consideration just like you took other people's advice 42 years ago. You have my full admiration and respect for being sober for so long. I know the years are easy but the days can be tough.

Meals on Wheels is a really good idea. Maybe @debodun would deliver sometimes. JK.

I sometimes get the doldrums but usually snap out of it because I know nobody will go out of their way to help. I do have friends, but they have their own issues to deal with. I love to go to my favourite coffee shops every day and get out my books and spend quality time there. All the staff know me, and I have made good friendships. I'm so lucky I can walk great distances and never have an ache or a pain. My Mantra is "Keep Moving".

with my physical well being...today I nearly fell at the front door, it
seems that entry has it out for me....I am just a bit depressed I guess,
am tired of the pain, aches, rash, lungs, I mean what the hell why so
many things at once?! I seem to be getting more clumsy every day
with my hands, and walking....get tired of cooking, clean up all alone...
ah well hell, this too shall pass I guess....enuff from me already!!(y)
It's okay. You can talk about it here.

Morning friends and thanks for all the encouragement, it really
does help....this morning I've sat here laughing at all the cartoons and enjoying pics that others have posted, so I'm off
to a good start today....:)
We are happy to help in any way we can.

I’m sorry for your loss hawkdon

hawkdon, may I ask if you were ever in the service? If so, you are eligible for a walker and even a mobile scooter. I am fortunate enough to have received both of these at no cost. Pappy
Pappy thanks for the info, I am checking on that today....I hope to get one I can go outside with, as well as use to stand at stove and sink....do you know that little pot-bellied guy that lives here didn't do 2 days worth of dishes....creep..........lol

@hawkdon , I'm glad to hear that today is a much better day for you!

@debodun , well happy belated birthday to you! I'll hit the big 7-2 in about a month. ;)

I'm so sorry @hawkdon This is the first time I noted this post. No wonder you eat more snack type foods if you can't stand for long and have mobility issues. The sweets probably make you feel better. I can relate.

The assisted living is terrible in the U.S.. It's very expensive profit driven. But we have enough of them even in my town so people must have the money. I never will.

Being on your own, this is hard and scary. I'd certainly look into every benefit you can get. I don't think we have enough.

Hawk, people in the USA are often stuck if they make too much money for some apartments and not enough for others. Assisted living in particular is very expensive.

Some people qualify for in home help partially paid for by Medicare. This was a long time ago so no clue if it is still available. I would check into meals on wheels.

I hear you about eating stuff that's not the best, I do that too . I guess I think I'll do whatever I feel to at this stage of the game. Life is not easy for anyone but living alone makes it even harder.

Good wishes for you to feel better . I've had times of being in a rut but I just try to get through each day as best I can and sometimes my efforts are not to so good. Sometimes things unexpectedly change for the better. I keep hoping. As long as we are alive we have hope šŸ’“

When you hit on the right food, you feel better and your balance improves.

It all comes back to an age old wisdom. Eat your vegetables....and fresh ones at that.

I now eat fresh Brussel sprouts, broccoli, carrots and onions every day. The neuropathy in my legs minimizes. I eat meat as well but not a lot.

A surprise came the other day when I got on the scale and saw that I lost 27 lbs. since my Dr appt back on April 10.

Whoa, that's a lot in just a month, Feller... heads up that your doctor is *definitely* going to be asking if the large weight loss has been planned/intentional. (If it *is* intentional, huge congrats! (y)) @OldFeller
