Keeping a problematic population docile.
San Francisco is offering free alcohol in the form of beer and vodka shots in an experimental effort to keep homeless off the streets, out of jail etc. One of the complaints is the program doesn't attach a rehab component to the program. It just free alcohol. Supposedly it's been tried in Canada with mixed results.

Otherwise known as enabling.
I disagree. If the city continues giving them drinks, they will have a very small chance of ever getting sober. Accordingly, they will just die! Problem solved...Well that's one way to control the areas of San Francisco they occupy and congregate in.
Don't think they will be handing out free booze in Presidio Heights or Seacliff.
Free booze never cured alcoholism or homelessness ... you heard it here first folks.
I am an alcoholic. There is no cure. Just don't drink. Wanted a glass of Italian Red Wine with my Italian Mother's Day Meal. Really wanted. Then I remembered I don't stop at one. Sigh. Had a Diet Coke with a slice of lemon.don't think anyone on this thread mentioned a cure??
You couldn't be more wrong.........As bad as alcohol is my understanding is that it is not as bad as potent marijuana
Really!?!?You couldn't be more wrong.........
I have experience with both, so must admit I am speaking only of myself and countless others I have known throughout the years......anecdotally speaking.Really!?!? Show me, please.
I think we can both agree that over use and badly timed use of MJ or alcohol is a bad things.I have experience with both, so must admit I am speaking only of myself and countless others I have known throughout the years......anecdotally speaking.
They could build at least five duplexes (10 units total) for $5 mil. in S.F. That's housing for 10 small families. i.e. 40 people. This program costs 5M a year to run. The cost alone is concerning. Perhaps recovery programs should be the goal. This must be incorrect but I read it has served only 65 clients total.
Want to rephrase that?San Fransisco deserves another really big earthquake, IMO. But I am not God.
San Francisco is (was) a beautiful world known iconic city. If you had ever been there before the problems got out of hand and with everything closing you'd know what I mean. All cities have had issues for as long as they existed. But San Francisco was special. Just walking the streets. But no more IMO.San Fransisco deserves another really big earthquake, IMO. But I am not God.
I'm tellin' ya, the wealthy business kings who run that area are nuts, IMO. Even Steve Jobs, who did a lot of good and useful things, had some great creative ideas, killed himself with his fruit-only diet. Very smart man with OCD, perhaps?, who was not smart enough to consult with some nutritionists about his DIET.
I call that blindness. There's a lot of moral blindness in S.F., IMO.

That is probably true for 90% of the population. But for approximately 10% of the population it is not true.I'm sorry, that's hard. But I'm pretty sure Red Wine is 100% better for you than Diet Coke. Ask Doc though.
Whew on that one.San Fransisco deserves another really big earthquake, IMO. But I am not God
Yeah, it actually is really, really horrible. Not to mention inexcusable. Why you would wish death and destruction on people you don't know and who have never done you wrong is beyond comprehension.Earthquake + tsunami. Wipe the place out and rebuild. I know - that's horrible, but this is where my frustration with the madness goes - off into earthquake movies.. When you're mad at California, watch this movie.
A lot of it going on with your post as well. There's a lot of moral blindness in S.F., IMO.
Please allow Pepper to enjoy an occasional diet coke in peace. She cannot drink any alcohol as she has bravely mentioned.I'm sorry, that's hard. But I'm pretty sure Red Wine is 100% better for you than Diet Coke. Ask Doc though.
Observational studies have linked diet soda to
type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, increased risk of stroke.
Also, weight gain, disruptions to gut health, cardiovascular problems and an increased craving for sweets. More recently, studies have linked the diet soda habit to an increased risk of stroke.
WAIT SOME MORE AGAIN ...“Managed Alcohol Program.” However, reports from the San Francisco Chronicle later revealed that the yearly spend is actually $5 million.
SOoooo doing the math ... 4 X $5million = $20million ... for a total of 65 people ?!?!?!Yet, the reality is in 4 years they treat a total of 65 people.
