What about umbrellas? Do you use them much?

Yes, I do take and use an umbrella whenever it rains. I carry a Totes mini. It works really well unless we get strong WIND along with the rain then the whole thing blows apart. I had the same trouble with traditional brollies. :(

No but I have one handy - whilst living in HK for a while I noticed little old chinese ladies walking around in the midday sun ; no rain with fully extended umbrellas - I couldn't work it out for a while but then someone clarified it - they were sun umbrellas

I often use the very large golf umbrella when I go walking in the rain. The smaller totes don't seem to hold up very well. I think I had a mini tote and it blew inside out in a high wind. I think the spoke broke and that was the end of that. I have located a few totes stored in the garage which are now in my car.

I keep two of them in my SUV.
together or separated ? - some don't like separations?

Not much... I just seem to be anti-umbrella most of the time, especially during the summer.

Just my own weirdness .... If it's a hot day (and that is everyday around here) and it starts to drizzle while I'm out walking, I just enjoy it all the more, and keep on walking.
It helps with cooling.
I'm not talking about a drenching rainstorm, just very light rain.

People around me will run for cover, and tell me to hurry and get inside. lol

Umbrellas apparently evolved from parasols, which were intended to keep sun rather than rain off, and were used even in ancient cultures. Around 1750, Jonas Hanway is often credited with popularizing the more modern umbrella. Ridiculed at first, his idea caught on! Paired with a proper hat, an umbrella can be a gentleman’s accessory.

Umbrellas can be used as walking sticks, and even as a weapon to defend against ruffians; whatever happened to ruffians, anyways? 🤔They may also be used in dance numbers; umbrellas, that is, not ruffians. Most ruffians can’t dance a lick. The best umbrellas are said to come from England and Italy… ☂️ 🌂

I use one with my walker or mobility chair. I have a poncho that covers the whole chair, controller and me if needed. I have not needed that since I bought it. The umbrella is hard to use with the walker but I try the best I can. It rains often here so I keep it in my walker just in case.

I spend most of my time losing them. I almost always have a small one in the bottom of my backpack purse but if I take it out, it will probably not come home with me.

I used to be able to buy perfectly good ones at Dollar Tree for a $1. I'd buy 10 at a time for the purse, the car, the front door, the trunk, the office, etc.

Yes, we keep one in the car and we do have two others in the garage. We like the big golf umbrellas as we both can fit under it. We use it when it is pouring unless it is thundering.
When we had the two mini dachshunds we had to use them to take the dogs outside in the rain..otherwise they would not step a foot outside the door!

Well since it can rain a lot here at times. I have given up the umbrella for hooded waterproof jackets. I just can't handle my purse, usually two shopping bags and an umbrella all at the same time
I use a cane and it complicates things. My winter coats have hoods and in warm weather I sometimes just get wet. The umbrella often stays in my purse. Sometimes a plastic bag comes in handy.

if I used a golf umbrella, the wind would....

Do you remember rain caps/bonnets?.. My granny always had one in her pocket when I was little, so she would cover her hat with it if it rained....

apparently you can still buy them now....

I have small, collapsible umbrellas. Two stay in my car because we get some fierce storms here. If I think it's going to rain I take it into the gym, grocery store, etc. I've frequently seen people just standing at the door waiting for the rain to subside.

One stays in my luggage because I don't know what the weather will be like where we visit. I remember being in a market in Asia and the skies opened up. Others on our tour were ducking under my umbrella.

On the other hand, I used to visit our corporate headquarters in Seattle once per month and felt like an idiot carrying an umbrella there. It constantly rains there so everyone just wears a hoodie.
