I work in heavy Industry operating a plasma cutter cutting steel plate from 2mm to 120mm thick.
The machine also oxy cuts.
Yesterday I oxy cut 120mm plate and thought I would share a little of it with you.
Initial piercing of the plate.
The plate being cut
Lifting the finished job lot from the plate

That looks like very time-consuming and hot work.

That looks like very time-consuming and hot work.
This particular job took one and a half hours. One hour to pre heat the plate and half an hour to cut the plate.
All up, loading the 11 ton plate onto the bed, cutting the plate, cutting up the skeleton and removing the plate takes two hours.
It is winter time here now, so the heat is appreciated. :)

very interesting, thanks......odo you enjoy your work..?... is it really hot ?
I enjoy what I do. When everything works as it should. Can be stressful when there is a problem. Mistakes can be costly.
The 11 ton plate I used here cost at least $15,000. So mistakes need to be limited.
The work is very hot in Summer. Being Winter here now, the heat is great. :)
