So many years have passed

I retired 18 years ago last month (age 62). Before I retired, every once in a while a retiree would come to the office and every one of them would say "I'm so busy now, and I just can't believe I got anything done when I had to go to work every day". Well, I'd laugh at that and assume they were joking or whatever.

Well, after I retired it didn't take me long to feel the same way!
 
My friend retired in 2021? 22? She says she has never been busier. She's a good person - does charity work and belongs to a few local clubs. She also wants grandchildren but her children are just not ready. SIGH!

I have another friend who has said he's always wanted to be a Professional Dabbler. LOL. He has not retired yet but I know when or if he does, he will be able to pursue that title.
 
My husband retired at 55 and said if he got bored he’d get another job or open up our business again. He opened up the business but now has so many things to do to keep him busy. He cuts down trees to make firewood,

He goes fishing and catches enough fish to make a decent meal

He mowes the lawn and has started gardening. He has even become a good cook.
Now he can’t imagine working.

I worked part time with my own businesses. One of my customers wanted to purchase my business so I retired and that was years ago.
I’ve got plenty of hobbies to keep me busy.

Over the course of the year, on average hubby & I work less than a day a week. A perfect balance at this point in our lives.

We're wholesale suppliers to two large customers. In 2016 we semi-retired, selling off most of our inventory to a competitor and the balance to our two wholesale customers. Closed the shop, warehouse and retail component. We rely on contractors we've used for decades, no longer need employees, and our time is mostly our own. The income keeps us from dipping into retirement funds, gives us play money, and allows us to be generous with our children and grands. It's the best of all worlds for us.

DH wanted to stop altogether last year, but we kept on due to a loyal customer's changed circumstances.

Yesterday, somewhat surprisingly, DH said he no longer wants to stop working anytime soon. For as long as we can continue on and our customers want our services, he'd like to stay the course. I'm fully on board because I quite enjoy my work.

I hear you about so many years passing It's been 29 years for me & it seems like just a few years ago. I think what I like most is DIY projects don't have to be rushed to get as much done as possible on the weekends. At 1st I thought that I'd be bored but soon found out filling the days with something to do isn't a problem

I've been retired about the same amt of time. At first I wished I had kept working, but now I can see just how much of a distraction making a living is to a person like me who has interests that never really coincided with my work distraction. I was distracted by work so much I almost had forgotten who I am and what I need in life. Working is kinda like a life sentence with eligibility for parole around 62 yrs of age.

I stopped work at 56 and Mrs. L at 53, travelled around GB and then moved to Scotland. We had planned to find part time jobs for 'pocket money', but soon realised that we didn't want or need to work. Like many others, we found that we were kept busy and generally there just aren't enough hours in the day for everything we want to do. Now into our 70's things show no signs of slowing down.
 
Retire. In 2015 after 25 years teaching which followed a period of doing construction which came after several years as a grocery clerk which began when I was still in high school. No regrets except that I didn’t do it as soon as No Child Left Behind was passed. Anyhow I love retirement. Between maintaining my garden, walking my wife and dog, and reading good stuff, I am as busy as V I care to be.
